new year, new life

I made it to Michigan! Moreover, I live here! Wow, what a ride...

L came into Brooklyn last Wednesday (the 29th) to help me move to his/the art-farm.  The snow, of course, was a hinderance.  Ultimately, we had to walk through the three-foot drifts in my neighborhood in order to buy moving boxes from a nearby storage facility.  Luckily, that was the biggest moving detractor.  Packing went quickly and my bestie JT came into town NYE to lend some support and have a quick visit.  Moving was also smooth because my friend/climbing partner S helped out and my neighbor P rather loves helping people move.  Easy peasy.  L was surprised at how little I had to bring, as compared to his 16-foot truck, packed to the brim.

The drive frim BK to MI was also charmed.  We left around 9 PM on Sunday, the 2nd.  It was a little later that we wanted, but actually perfect because we hit zero traffic.  In fact, the only traffic we encountered was a brief rush hour in Toledo.  All in all, it was an 11 hour trip with one stop overnight to sleep.  Morrison rode in the back of the truck because I learned my lesson many years ago when I moved him from 'bama to BK.  No.  No matter how much kitty Valium, he will not pass out.  I thought it was better to give him room to roam around, even if it was cold.  He faired well and has enjoyed exploring his new home ever since.

L and I, however, promptly came down with sinus infections.  Well ok, I got the sinus infection, then was nice enough to share it with L.  So!  Adventures in new state with no health insurance.  I made a few phone calls and found an urgent care place that charged me a minimum of $164--the rest of the bill will come later (urgh).  The good news is that my prescription was free.  Strange but true: certain drugs (especially generic antibiotics) are free in this county.  Rock.  I could have waited until Saturday to go to a free clinic, but decided waiting two more days untreated was pushing it.  Sinus infections can eat your brain, you know.

Stay tuned for more news from the farm.  I need to buckle down and work (I *do* have a job here, after all), plus there's more unpacking to accomplish.  And recycling, and cooking, and...
