L: It's still so strange being here. I'm trying to make it my own, but every morning I wake up and I think of it as my mom's house.
K: It'll get there, hun. So will you. *hugs him*
L: You being here makes it feel a lot more like home.
So the above sets the scene, I think. L's not one to shy away from making his feelings known, which is refreshing. Although--let me be clear--he is very much interested in getting me out of NYC and on the farm. (More on that subject in my next post.)
The house is amazing and I could easily get lost in 50 acres of trees and fields--I would have, actually, if L wasn't my guide. We spent most of our time indoors and out of the cold, but I got the grand tour of the land, the barn, and what will be of the art farm in the coming months. It's full of possibilities. Simply bursting with possibilities. And if there is anyone who can make a possibility a reality, it's L. His vision, intentions, and actions are completely, unwaveringly in line... like an arrow. It's inspiring.
We ate well because I insisted on cooking every meal--way to a man's heart and all that. My grocery list was a little over the top, nudging us to call in for back-up, thus I fed two of L's friends as well. Points for that. The catfish tacos with raspberry chipotle sauce went over really well; mango--my usual sauce base--was not to be found, so I substituted with raspberries, which just so happen to be L's favorite. Serendipity. I also made dumplings for the first time, pumpkin dumplings, in fact. L asked for the recipe so I left it with him (I brought a stack of recipes with me--I do not mess around).
I also met L's mom. Her care facility is just down the street from the farm and L visits her every day at 11:30. I went along every day, but on the first she felt too sick for company. Day two she sized me up--yikes. Day three she warmed up to me, asked me a few questions about myself, and said it was so nice to have me here. I was touched. More touching, however, was seeing L with her. So, so patient. Maybe it was too intimate a moment for me to see, but I will forever remember the quiet and simple scene of a young man leaning over his mother's bed, holding her hand and speaking softly to her. He's taken on this far too early roll of caretaker with grace and gravity.
What else? I shot a gun! I do that sometimes because I think it's an important skill to have and hone. L is a great shot, of course. He favors his left eye so shoots left-handed, despite being a righty. Skills. I missed all of my targets. *shrugs* I also played with a dog! L's childhood friend has a huge golden retriever--a little young and shy, but fun. L's thinking about getting his own dog, but is hesitant because he favors cats. (Incidentally, Morrison likes L a lot. Granted, Morrison likes most laps.) Other animals spotted: deer, muskrat, and hawk.
And of course we had lots and lots of wonderful sex. Nice and slow because we had no place to be. In front of a fireplace because we can. I am so completely spoiled... Even fully dressed he makes my blood pressure rise. When I'm cooking, for instance, he'll walk up behind me, wrap his arms around my waist, and kiss my neck. Chills. I also like his casual and assured affection, like when he draped his arm over my legs as we were sitting on the couch talking to one of his friends. And the hand holding in the car or walking around... it's just so comfortable. Wait. Do I have a boyfriend? I think I do.
