After a disastrous family-filled Thanksgiving in bama, I was more than a little excited and relieved to spend Christmas alone in Brooklyn. I am not even ashamed to say that I didn't leave my apartment. Nope! Rather, I lounged about in a t-shirt and yoga pants and watched three episodes of the John Adams HBO miniseries. (SC's John Rutledge is smokin' hot. And Abigail Adams was a badass proto-feminist if ever there was one.)
What else did I do? Hm. I attempted my first batch of ratatouille, which came out well, but perhaps--perish the thought!--I am rather bored with eggplant at the moment. I also dealt with my monthly expenses, tallied my annual bonus (there seems to be some missing, because I know 44% taxation is incorrect), and scored a winter coat online for about 70% off. Go me.
The phone didn't ring until after 5:00, which was fine by me. Jason called to chat, and inevitably we found ourselves correcting all socio-political ills. Mom called to say hi and make sure I got my present, but wound up ribbing (insulting?) me about my anti-factory farm convictions, over speaker phone, no less; I do love it when people are so aggressive about maintaining their ignorance that they adopt a xenophobic cruelty. I need to have a talk with her and explain that my stance does not threaten her lifestyle, and maybe she should work out that insecurity on her own. The topper of the evening, however, was an ex-fella's drunken phone call. I am certain that whenever he's feeling lonely he scrolls through his phone in search of women who will console him. When he hits the Ks my phone rings. The last time I saw him was early October, when he swore he just wanted dinner company (not a booty call), then proceeded to badger me for sex over the course of the evening. Lesson learned, I let the call go to voicemail.
Today I mop! If you've ever seen the sheer square footage of hardwood (heh. wood.) in my apartment, you know this is no small task. Then later today I'm heading over to Leah's, where we'll discuss Buddhism, eat mightily, and watch the awesomeness that is kung-fu movies.
