Last night I dressed as Poison Ivy (from Batman, not that creepy early 90s movie) and hit Williamsburg with my friend and climbing partner, Sam, and his friends. The evening was refreshingly low on mobs, tourists, vomiting, and violence, though I did ride the train with a gang--no kidding. It was super fun just to bounce from party to party rather than deal with Manhattan's bar scene. The best party was one we just passed on the street, then went back to crash because we liked the music. We also swung by Union Pool (a bar) and were pleasantly surprised that the back yard area wasn't too pack. I sat back, admired the costumes, and talked geo-political science with a hottie from Montreal by way of Botswana. Ah, Brooklyn.
Because I missed the big parade, I didn't get to see as many clever costumes, but among my favorites--
* Lego men
* Mail order bride (she was stuffed in a giant envelope!)
* Corn (or was he ethanol?)
* Zebra
* pregnant Bristol Palin
* Triceratops and Pterodactyl (not small party-friendly costumes, but certainly a dino-nerd pleaser)
* Robots...man I love robots and dinosaurs
My costume can be seen on Facebook. It was mainly a slinky green dress, a red wig, lots of plastic and felt ivy, and of course some drag queen worthy make-up. Oh! Which reminds me... we hit a gay bar and Sam dared me to pick up a guy by posing as a drag queen, thus giving said guy a sort of reverse Crying Game surprise, should he take me home. It didn't work. At all. One of our gay friends said I was too pretty to pass as a guy, which is a nice compliment in the face of failing to meet a challenge.
Good times! Now to clean the apt. of all costuming scraps while watching Sean of the Dead or something similarly scary/funny.
