finally: the exhibition that I researched

It's real! Here's a link to the upcoming exhibition...

I doubt there is going to be a big see-and-be-seen opening, but it opens Aug. 30th, regardless. I can't WAIT to see it all come together--up and on the walls. So I'm going to sneak a peek tomorrow, because I can.

It's a far more somber show that I expected to be handed so early on in my stint at the Brooklyn, but I rose to the challenge and learned quite a bit along the way. The *history* of the WTC site is what this project was all about; we looked at the area in a before, during, and after context. Most of my work had to do with the "before" aspect. I became familiar with the NY Public Library's map room, to be sure, but along the way I also grew to know and love NYC in a way I hadn't experienced before--I discovered the city's history. Makes sense that I connected in such a way...

I also took some pictures of the site as it is today. Some of these photos might be used as thumbnail images on the wall labels, but I'll know more about that tomorrow (maybe). (You can see some of those images in the "street photography" section of my scrapbook. Just look for color pix of architecture.) I also created some maps, but those will not be in the show. In the future, however, they may be part of my publication on pre-WTC history. Dr. K said I should publish and vowed to help me find the right outlet. But one thing at a time... thesis first.

Anyway, there it is. If you're in the city I hope you get a chance to see the show. I'll post another link when it opens so the rest of you guys can see/read more.
