new internship, better assignments

Last Wednesday was my first day at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. This time I'm working with the head curator of prints, photographs, and drawings. Sounds glamorous, right? Not so fast... Last week I saw her for a total of 30 minutes -tops-, was ushered into a work space which I could use *only* because the person who usually occupies that office was out for heart surgery, and was given some hasty assignments. Among them: research the history of Battery Park City and other areas of lower Manhattan which used to be water and take pictures of areas surrounding the former World Trade Center site. Not so bad, but it'll be hard to continue that line of research without a computer come next week. I printed a hefty archaeological survey to keep me busy for the time being.

Anyway, the pictures came out great. I took them on PM's digital camera because time was of the essence (yes, I still use film, dammit, and I like it). They might be used as thumbnail comparisons to other pictures concerning the World Trade Center. The upcoming exhibition focuses on the buildings before they were built, during their tenure, and now. It was a pretty somber shoot, considering. Not an easy one either-- winds were 50 mph and it had snowed the night before, and I, as we know, am a delicate Southern flower. Still, I got what they needed and I'm very happy with the results. Here's one for your viewing pleasure.
