So I've had this idea for a while, and since I've got nothin but free time I think I'm gonna make it happen.
I want to make a blog called "Cheap Date", and it'd be about recipes around $5 for 2 people, maybe with special occasions costing more, or having dinner party type recipes as well.
I've been doing some research, and so far all I've found about cheap food has been gross: "a piece of bread, + ketchup + american cheese = pizzza!" Or some guy rambles on about how to make a grilled cheese in a 3000 word essay. (
http://www.bloglander.com/cheapeats/ ) Food like this is important, sure. I've made my share of toaster oven delights, but I don't really think people need to read about them.
The other kind of cheap food websites are about cooking for a family of 4, assuming theres a stay at home mom to bake bread, soak beans, and make 3 square meals a day, all while shootin' snakes and bringin' em home for supper.
http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/40dollarmenu.htm Ok, confession: I actually I kinda like this website, and also Pioneer Woman's website, but they just don't fit my lifestyle.
http://thepioneerwoman.com/ The closest thing I've found has been this book "Cheap and Easy: A Cookbook for Girls on the Go" which sounds great. It talks about ingredient recycling, recipes mostly from fresh or unprocessed ingredients, and they dont' take complicated equipment. The thing I can't stand about this book is the constant "Sex in the City" type puns! Like, omg I'm a single girl, so I need meals to seduce men? Really?
These recipies are gonna be cheap, but not stoner food. They're gonna be healthy (but maybe not low-calorie), and they're gonna be fresh and geared towards 20 year olds.
I'm gonna work on some wireframes today, and maybe get the template designed by this weekend. After that comes the hard part-- content.
On the docket so far:
- Black Bean Burgers
- Super Veggie Pasta Sauce

I'll also feature posts on tips like: planing a week's menu, ingredient recycling, planing for leftovers, kitchen equipment, how to buy stuff cheaper, and how to make food look pretty.
Would anyone like to be a partner with me in this? I can make an account for you, and you can post at your will.
