I remember years ago, I was probably about twelve, being in Springboard and seeing a box with a picture of an emancipated Cheshire Cat and a bloodied Alice holding a knife. I think I snuck a quick peek at the back of the box to see what it was about, because even then I was into all that macabre stuff. I promptly forgot about it though, because I knew, like fuck my parents would let me play something like that. Never mind that it was rated M.
Last week, I was reading Penny Arcade, and they made, like, fifty refernces to American Mcgee and his Alice.
I've spent my day watching gameplay/ cut scene clips from this:
->Japanese version, because I couldn't find a good quality original. And the American trailer used different voice actors from the game, and for some reason I just love Alice's game voice and didn't think the trailer did justice to her character. Oh, and didja see, at 1:20? CHESHIRE LOVE. Just love love love that guy. And seriously, his voice, yum. I looked his actor up and was amazed he hadn't been in anything else I know.
->I'm really annoyed because I can't find the cut scene for the part in the trailer where she's drinking with the Hatter and he pulls the saw. Grrr, how could they show that in the trailer and then not put it in the game? Apparently they toned down the gore from the demo, but evidently I have an stunted perception of violence, because I think I would enjoy a bit more blood. Like when I watched the depressing March Hare and Doormouse scene (poor things), I actually paused my mourning to squee over the blood stains on Alice's apron and the bloody "YOU'RE NEXT!" on the wall.
->Yes, I know I can be sick at times. Let me take a moment to reassure everyone that I am not actually a homocidal maniac and do love baby animals and cute plushies. I sing along to Utada Hikaru and am capable of going through occasional bouts of romanticism. Seriously.
->Anyway, does this post have enough flail? Can you believe I'm not actually a gamer? Should I even bother trying to find a copy of this game? Or just hope to God that the rumors of a remake are true? I reeeeeally want to watch the rest of the clips on youtube, but I also want to leave surprises just in case.
->I actually got myself an itunes account and downloaded a few tracks. I might have to go back and get the opening theme.
