As personal tragedies went, this was pretty insignificant in Liz's opinion. It was certainly less traumatic than a lot of things they'd faced together and probably would face in the future. That hadn't stopped her boyfriend from complaining about it endlessly, however. Very few people would guess that beneath Hellboy's gruff, wisecracking exterior there lurked an overgrown kid who could give an army of sullen teenagers a run for their money in terms of sheer petulance.

"This is all your genes, you know," he grumbled from behind her.

She was trying to be understanding. She really was. They'd both had to adjust to so many changes over the past year, big ones and small ones both, that it was inevitable that eventually they would start to wear on him. She'd have found it a lot easier to be sympathetic if he'd stopped needling her about it, though.

"He sure as hell didn't get it from my side of the family!"

"Red." She took a deep breath, extinguishing the flames that had started to flicker at the tips of her fingers. "For the last time, it is not my fault our son is allergic to cats."

het, gratuitous fluff, hellboy (movie)
