Shannock Rock City

In light of the ridiculously long amount of time between posts, I've come up with something of a New Year's resolution.  I won't be holding myself to it too strictly, but here it is: now that I'm officially out of college and have nothing eating up my free time except for work, I am pledging that I will update this journal once a week (give or take a couple days).  I have a few reasons for this:

1- Despite the fact that I update my own journal maybe once a month tops, I still end up checking my friends page every couple of days.  As time has gone on, fewer and fewer of the people that Livejournal considers my friends have been updating regularly (the one notable exception being
onigamizero, who seems to have some never-ending extra-dimensional well of free time to pull from.  You'd think somehow there are 36 hours in his day while we mere mortals are blessed with only 24).  As someone who often turns to the internet to alleviate boredom, this caused me a bit of distress, which in turn made me realize that I am being a blogging hypocrite.  So hopefully if I actually mange to keep this up for longer than two weeks other people will start following my example and then I'll have something to read.

2- As stated in the above introduction, I've recently had the joy of graduating from college.  That's right, I am now the proud owner of a Bachelor's of Science in Marine Biology.  Here's the catch: we lucky Americans currently live under a President who sees the environment as a speed bump for big business, and this is reflected in the amount of funding given to environmental management organizations like the EPA or NOAA.  Since the job market in my field is highly competitive to begin with, this basically means that someone with just a BS in Marine Bio has to get into grad school, if for no other reason than to give the now-Democratic Congress time to reverse the trend (and maybe even impeach the bastard, though I'm not crossing my fingers).  Back when I was an undergrad, I had school, homework, work, and extracurricular activities to eat up all the time that I wasn't asleep or in the bathroom.  Now I just have work, and a decent amount of free time for the rest of the day to sit and work myself into a nervous breakdown over may chances of getting into a grad school and securing my future.  So basically, this is just one more distraction.  A distraction that I am going to need.

3- The third and final reason to try and keep "Bored Enough for This" up to date is simple free speech.  I have a blog, I set it up with the intent to write in it, therefore I might as well use it.  This is a stupid argument to make in some cases (nuclear weapons being a classic example), but I think it's an appropriate one for a right defended in the Constitution.  And in today's political climate, doing what the Constitution tells you is downright subversive.  In fact, I think I can hear black SUV's full of CIA agents pulling up to my house right now...

So there it is, my Livejournal statement of purpose.  Feel free to start up a betting pool or two over how long it'll take me to start slacking off on this blog again.
