I haven't felt the urge to write in a while. But I had a conversation tonight that made me want to share a few things. Let me explain my night first though, it'll help...
About once a weekend I see PJ and Summer(husband and wife, two of the best people in the world). This usually includes a number of 'regulars'. But tonight i was one of three females and 11 guys. Alan, Clay, Steven, PJ, Aaron, Paul, Free, Dwayne, Mayo, Jordan, and some other kid whose name i dont remember. Anyway...PJ was Navy, Paul is Marines, Free is Marines, Mayo is Army, and the kid whos name I don't remember is on his way into some branch or the other. A skunk met it's demise tonight(I swear it ties in). Alan and I were the only sober ones mind you, PJ took a double barrel with buck shot to the thing. His sisters and Summer got pissed, I was being a smartass. "You proud of yourself?" PJ looked like he was gonna bawl. but let me explain PJ to you before I start with the conversation. PJ was Navy. He was picked for Seal school. Morning before graduation, he broke his leg and couldn't complete his last few hours. He has been all over the world doing Intelligence work. When America invaded Iraq, PJ was there. He was wounded several times. One of them he caught a piece of shrapnel(sp) across the face, it hit the neck of the guy next to him. The guys family was given a purple heart. They offered it to PJ and he denied it because he didn't think it was fair that he lived and got it and the other one had to go to the guys wife. He is one of few men who is an honorary Marine. He was pinned in 2003. Besided Corps men he is one of the only ones who can wear the insigna. He stood outside in the freezing cold and told me what it was like to be in a fire fight, fire, and after it was over finding out who he shot. Until Iraq it never bothered him to fire his weapon. It didn't bother him to know that he had killed "the bad guy" but when he was deployed the last time they had to do battle assesments. After the battle ended, they had to walk through and search the dead on both sides and catalogue who it was. He said that he would go through searching and find wallets with pictures of kids and their wives and it would keep him awake for nights. One night he was in a passageway and rounded a corner and saw the barrel of a gun so he fired. Found out during the assesment that he had killed an 11 year old boy who was fighting. He said that at that moment(you like i veered into the convo, right?)that there really is no such thing as the true bad guy. Whenever he was fighting he was shooting the good guy who stood on the other side of the line. To the people there it is black and white. You're either good or bad. No grey area. But that to the other guy, he was doing what was right. I felt so bad for him then. All I could do is give him a hug. And then we walked in and Summer laid into his ass about the skunk. But what he said about the bad guys made me think. And it reminded me of something I heard somewhere before "Killing someone in life is murder, but killing someone in war is glory."
On a lighter note, Free reminded me soooo much of a mix between Cowboy and Joker from Full Metal Jacket(which I watch WAY too much). Funny thing is that after I told him I learned that he lives on base at Paris Island. Lmao.
And on another note I'd like to add that I hope that when I grow up and have a relationship with someone it will be like PJ and Summer's. They have one of the cutest kids I have ever seen and they are happy. They still play around with one another and flirt. And they are so happy. And comfy with one another. And I can only hope. Paul and Brandy tried to hoook me up with Free and it was funny as hell. Minus PJ's moment tonight was a fun night. I made a few people laugh when I announced(with a mouth full of POProcks) that POProcks were like a party in your mouth! We stood around, and everyone got fucked up. There were many games of beer pong and a lot of Full Metal Jacket quotes. It was fantastic. But now it is 6:15 and I need to go to bed.
