my new year resolution...who will join me?

This is personal
My new years resolution will be one that i've said for years now...to quit smoking. I said i'd quit after my mother's uncle (and very close to me) died of lung cancer 2 years ago. I should have also quit when i was 20 and told i had to have part of my cervix removed because i was in a stage before cancer forms. Now, my mother's twin sister, my aunt, has had cancer for a while...les than a year that we've known of. She had part of her colin removed about 3 months ago, along with 4 lymph nodes that were cancerous. Last week, some more tests were done. despite the daily radiation and chemo over the last 6 weeks, another tumor grew where she had part of her colin removed and it has also spread to her kidneys, liver, and stomach just below her lungs. The surgeons have decided to do no more surgeries. She will be continuing radiation therapies but they say that will give her a year. She's 51 years old...she is like my own mother...and she hasn't smoked in decades...since her father died of lung cancer a year before i was born.
I ask you to post this up to help encourage people to quit smoking if cancer runs in the family b/c no matter how many years it's been since you've picked up a cigarrett, it won't matter in the end.
