Progression of Cheer

this is an article that i found i thought it was kind of intersting...

1890s--- An organized cheering squad forms at th e University of Minnesota. Surprise! ITS ALL GUYS!!

1923--- U of Minn. ALLOWS girls to join. They immediately improve things by ading Gymnastcis.

1940s--- America sends its men off to fight in WWII. From then on, most cheerleaders are female.

1957--- the first SPirit Stick is awarded t oa squad for being especially enthusiastic. More than 40 years later, Kirstin Dunst drops hers in Bring it On.

1972--- Finally, cheerleaders start performing at womens gamaes as well as at mens.

1978--- Ready?Okay! The first collegiate cheer competition airs on CBS.

1979--- Younger girls come off the sidelines for the National High School Cheer Championships.

1983--- The Nationals make their ESPN debut.

2001--- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commision reports that nearly 25,000 cheerleading injuries require emergency care. Sure sounds like cheerleading is a sport to us!!

i just that was really cool considering guys were the first cheerleaders!!!
