"Parents" blueeyedguy March 15 2010, 04:33:26 UTC
I often see these kids whose parents seem obvlious to their child's disrespectful behavior. My girlfriend and I went to see "Avatar" over Christmas break and it was a wonderful movie. The only part of the experience I didn't enjoy was the 2-3 young teenagers, maybe 12-13 years old (I didn't turn around to look at them for fear), who kept talking through the movie and making rude comments about what was happening onscreen. I don't remember anything specific, but I remember turning to my girlfriend at the end of the movie and saying somewhat loudly "that was great except for those f*cking rude kids sitting behind us." I said it loud enough so the kids could hear and I think their parents were sitting right next to them the entire time. Like you said, I was afraid to turn around and ask them to be quiet for fear that they would react in a confrontational manner as most young people seem to when a strang adult calls them on their rude behavior. I don't think it's anything new that teenagers act rudely in public, but the fact that many parents don't really seem to care to correct them or call them on it is something new. Parents need to understand that when they fail to correct their children then the children think it's okay to act like a$$holes and to treat other people like dirt and then they grow up to be adult a$$holes and the world really doesn't need more of those.
