[X] Go to a concert
Yay!
so I've been concert binge-ing big time this past week, taking advantage of the summertime. I went to see Cary Brothers at Borders which was so awesome because there were a total of like 20 people there. so yeah, it was pretty personal. His voice is so incredibly soothing.. like Coldplay meets Joshua Radin. I highly recommend if you're into mellow, acoustic-y alternative.
Speaking of Muse(!), I went to see them that same night with a couple of oakton friends. I think they opened with Knights of Cydonia and they played all of my favorites- Starlight, Map of the Problematique, Time is Running Out. They were so explosive it wasn't even funny. The lead singer would play his guitar upside down, behind his back, while rolling around on the floor.. like he had an outrageous case of star power or something. and on top of the strobing light show/ animations, the piano/guitar/bass all lit up and the drum set was clear . And they'd end songs with practically 5 minutes of pure distortion- but mind you, the best distortion ever.
On saturday I went to the Mae concert with Jennifer and Jesse at the 9:30 Club. I'm in love with As Tall As Lions, which was the opener but they were so much better than Mae live. The guitarist's head bobbed so fast he looked like a dying animal according to Jesse. The pianist at one point did this thing where he banged drum sticks against his chair legs. and they were all surprisingly good singers so they had really good, rich harmonies and backup vocalizing.
Mae was good but I they weren't very into it. Either the lead singer was sick or the mic was weird because his voice was so scratchy that he sounded like a robot. They played Suspension, Embers and Envelopes, and Summertime, but mostly played songs off of their new album that just came out today.

weee! I'm going to see Rooney and The Hush Sound in Maryland this weekend. I'm so excited I might pee my pants.
Sometimes I feel icky when I realize that we're not little kids anymore. I'll get fb invites to parties at distant acquaintances' houses. Then the feeling of flattery instantly turns into disgust when I see the 200+ invites and the wall posts about who's bringing the alcohol. It's always so wtf hearing about old friends that are now drinking/etc.
