Windows 8 is frustrating me to no end. My bluetooth mouse stops working after about 15 minutes, I have to sign in to my Microsoft account for every single thing, it keeps changing the size of the text on websites alllll the time, it can only do one "app" at a time, there are "apps"... I don't know. Anyone have Windows 8 and know how to make it not suck so much?
This morning I was meant to go to a car boot sale, which I think is a flea market in a parking garage. Alarm set for 9, hit snooze til 10, daydreamed til 11, internetted til 12, and the thing ended at 1 so decided that I'll go next week.
The weather the past few days has been really nice, blue skies and chirping birds and all that. I got a few pictures with my real camera... though I still have photos from my Egypt trip in 2010 to put up on Facebook, so I doubt they will get uploaded.. though I think lj has allotted some pic space without using photobucket, so maybe you'll get a pic or two.
I went to my first chippy (fish n chips shop) last night. John warned me that I should order ahead unless I wanted to stand around in the shop waiting while the workers complained about their lives. He was not joking. I will definitely call ahead next time... I responded when spoken to, but I'm pretty sure they thought I didn't speak English. Truth be told, I had a very very hard time understanding their accents.
I suppose that is a bit of culture shock for me... things are way more Scottish/British than I imagined. Haggis and Irn Bru really are everywhere. Haggis is on every menu and you can even get haggis pizza like it ain't no thang. Some accents are so thick that I don't realize it is English sometimes. There are bars/cafes EVERYWHERE. Every single establishment has a bar/cafe. The thrift store, the movie theater, the library, the school auditorium... heck, each student union has at least three different bars. I guess people here are just really thirsty?? All these cafes everywhere and not one will sell me an iced tea. If you want an Irn Bru or a haggis roll, you're good to go, though.
My first Japan club meeting is tonight. It is a sake and sushi event, both things I am not fond of, but I'll suck it up and join in. I need to make new friends. Now that Charlotte, Nick, and Jackie are gone and Hannah is leaving, I need to get some school friends. Hopefully there are other postgrads.
Some Scottish words I learned so far:
clarted: caked with dirt/mud
winch: snog, make out
stoater: something excellent and/or a hot girl
