I had another appointment with the urologist yesterday. I have to say, it was not the most fun outing. First of all, of the 20-some-odd patients waiting, I was the only one under 70 and the only one who was female. We did have something in common though, namely we were all intensely interested in our shoes and the ceiling. I had to keep fighting ( Read more... )

I had a cystoscopy done when I was 15 after a series of kidney infections, and holy shit, it sucks. I'm so sorry for you, a grown woman, going through it. It sucked, too, that when mine was done, there were 6 or 7 medical students in the room watching. I got the final urethra dilation thing while I was fully asleep (I don't know how you handled it awake), while I was also getting my tonsils out and having my nose broken to correct a deviated septum and having a lymph node the size of a strawberry extracted from behind my ear. Needless to say, when I woke up, I was an unbelievably unhappy camper. I don't know what the heck my crew of doctors was thinking when they told my mom and me it would be wisest to get it all over with in one fell swoop. That's sort of like telling someone it's normal to pee blood. The only possible response to that is: Yeah? Fuck you - has this happened to you??

I don't really understand the people who go into urology as a profession. It's like gynecology except 900 times worse because you don't even get to deliver babies.

I was thinking the exact same thing - urology is such an odd profession to pick...dunno what the thought process is there, but on the other hand there are colon doctors too, so....

It must have been SO embarrassing to have the medical students in there, when you were 15 no less. I was mortified with one little old man.

I also can't believe they did all that to you at once, geez. You must have a ridiculously high pain tolerance to make it through that. :(
