There is a guy (homeless I assume), who stands near my office building pretty much every day, all day. I don't ever give money to anyone in DT Crossing because of the sheer volume of panhandlers, and because I get to see them all later in the day passed out literally in the gutter or across the sidewalk, with their empty bottles of listerine on the ground next to them, often as not covered in their own vomit, shit or piss. This guy near my building is different, however. He's clean, he's sober, he's funny, and a nice guy, and doesn't really panhandle, he just hangs out. I know he's got an alcoholism problem since I've seen him on the weekends passed out, but it's like he's set himself to just being sober and in his spot during the week.
This morning, when I passed by, he was laughing and told me that he's not going to stand there during the morning rush anymore, because today a woman absentmindedly put $0.50 in his coffee as she passed him. Doh! Knowing that coffee costs $0.75 at the place next door, I gave him $0.25 to go get himself another cup.
Also notable, I lost 3.5 lbs of sweat during my run this morning. It was so humid that I don't think a single drop of it actually evaporated while I was running.
