The Little Red Hen

In the grand tradition of Animal Farm, here's my insights into that significant work of literary merit, The Little Red Hen. I have come to the conclusion that at its core it’s a communist manifesto. You have the Dog, the Cat, the Mouse and the little red Hen living in a house together. The little red Hen does all the labor while the other creatures profit from it: the cooking, cleaning, etc. At the end of the book, when she takes the cake out of the oven, all the other animals rush to eat it but she refuses. She eats the cake all by herself. I think that this is an obvious allusion to the proletariat overthrowing the bosses. She refuses to allow them to profit from her subservience. At the end of the book, the power structure has changed. Now, all the animals help with all the chores so that they can reap the rewards. (I wonder if it’s a purposeful allusion to Marie Antoniette's famous "let them eat cake" remark.) Its also interesting to note that the Hen is the only animal whose gender is specified and she is, of course, female. So, also the only one's who is associated with a color, red, and that color is of course synonymous with communism.

This is what happens when you're pregnant and have too much time on your hands. (wink.) Now that the computer is fixed, I will probably be updating much more often. I think they're trying to get a Food Not Bombs started here and I am excited about that, although I dread dealing with people. I keep hoping that the Tadpole gets Jay's disposition and not mine. LOL.

And yes, this was my twisted idea of something funny... well the whole idea of it amused me at least.
