For the record,
this article pissed me off. Not that the information contained therein is inaccurate, but it is not new. The
Aarne-Thompson Tale Type index determined that all tales are related across cultures almost 100 years ago. Maybe they didn't think they were related in the same way (or maybe they did), but the basic science is the same.
I realize an anthropologist may not be as familiar with this work as a folklorist, but there's so much overlap in those two fields, one would think the researchers in this case would have at least brushed up against it once or twice....
