My team at work is split into two parts, with each part having it's own supervisor. Tomorrow the supervisor over the other half of my team, Matt, is turning 40. A couple of the guys have decided to play pranks on him, since it's the big 4-0 and Matt is for the most part a serious guy. So I decided to go the nice route and bake things for him. His wife also works with us so I IMed her last week and asked what I should bake him. She immediately sad chocolate chip cookies, and red velvet cake. That sounded like a plan to me.
So I made
these red velvet cupcakes and while I cannot vouch for how good they are cooked, I can say with conviction that the batter is awesome. I'm not usually a chocolate fan, but this is pretty subtle and very good. I think I might make these cupcakes again without the chocolate and food coloring as I think the buttermilk would make an extremely interesting vanilla cupcake. But I say this as someone who loves buttermilk in most things. I apologize that I did not take a picture of these as my frosting skills are mediocre at best.
I also made s'mores cookies. I'm not a huge fan of plain chocolate chip cookies, so I didn't want to make them for Matt. While perusing
Tastespotting I stumbled across
this recipe for s'mores cookies. I didn't even look at the ingredients before I decided I had to make them. Because 1) marshmallows are awesome, and 2) s'mores cookies are a step up from my
fluff 'n s'mores and those were utterly delicious.
They turned out pretty well if I do say so myself! Mike tested one and heartily approved. Now we have to hope that the birthday boy likes them too.
Happy Birthday Matt!
