you guys, !!! hi! i have actually been keeping up with reading my flist, but i've been tired and busy and shy, and i miss talking to you all. <333 *waves and hugs and loves*
so i've been watching tv shows lately. a lot.
it all started with a preview for the movie Post Grad, almost exactly two months ago. within the two minutes or so the preview lasted, i fell hard for zach gilford. i never ended up seeing the movie (it looked pretty bad. sorry zach!), but i soon learned that he was on the show Friday Night Lights, which i had recently heard a friend mention was pretty good. netflix happened to have the first two seasons available for streaming, and despite working almost full time, i devoured all thirty-seven episodes in a handful of days and bumped season 3 to the top of my dvd queue. i have since purchased all three seasons for my very own (they were super cheap!), and re-watched most of them with my sister, who is now as obsessed as i am. (i'm so proud, you don't even know. she's not the fangirl type, usually. hehehe.) SO THIS SHOW, YOU GUYS, IS SUPER GOOD. it's basically about Texas high school football, but it is all about the people; the football is totally just a plot device. zach gilford's character is the most adorably geeky, sweet, and noble guy ever, and he's not even my favorite! coach taylor -- played by the seriously amazing kyle chandler (i'm wowed by him over and over and over) and featured in my awesome icon with his beautiful wife mrs. coach -- is THE BEST EVER. my sister (who, remember, isn't fangirly) said she wants to have his babies. and she is far from alone! if you haven't seen this show, i urge you to rectify this immediately. and then tell me you loved it, because i know you will. :D
well, after i'd watched FNL all the way through twice, i decided i wanted another show to get into. (i was surprised by this, because i'm not much of a television fan, but i realized later that it was because i wanted something i could get invested in that wouldn't be over a mere two hours later. i know, i should read a book. i will soon, though! more on this later.)
so after a bit of contemplating, i chose Fringe. the same friend who'd said good things about FNL also enjoyed it, and i've liked joshua jackson for a long time. (no, i never watched Dawson's Creek. i still mostly associate him with pacey, though. well, that and his small role in Cruel Intentions. he totally hooked up with daniel from Ugly Betty! hahaha.) sadly, Fringe wasn't streaming anywhere except hulu, which only had the second season, so i was forced to otherwise acquire the first. this meant i could only watch a couple of episodes per night, and boy did i suffer withdrawal between fixes. now i'm all caught up (i'm watching the new episodes on hulu like a good little fan), and may have also bought season 1 on dvd. (okay, so it wasn't cheap -- at all -- but i had just been given a raise and promise of a steady job through april [with benefits and vacation and everything!]. it was a congratulatory gift to myself.) the only special feature i've watched so far is the Paley Festival talk, and that alone has increased my appreciation for the show enormously. they were discussing the fact that they're not dumbing things down for the audience, and as a result fans have pointed out holes in their logic or what have you, and mister jackson said, "i'd rather be on a show that aims for first place and comes in second, than a show that aims for mediocrity and achieves its goal." and that is, like, the perfect way to describe my problem with popular everything right now (especially music): it doesn't try to do or say or be anything new or important or even real. people are going for the lowest common denominator and are happy when everyone else likes it and they make their money. so, yeah, i applaud and respect him/them so much for that. *descends soapbox* my only problem (and the biggest reason i'm so addicted) is the lack of olivia and peter hookingupness!~%*# by the time i was a few episodes in, i was sure they'd be an item any moment, but no. *cries* i just want my bbs to be happy and in love. is that so much to ask?
other new shows i've been watching (with much less fervor): Community and Glee. they're pretty neat. the latter is especially fun because it's like a musical or three every week, but a few of the character storylines are really frustrating (ahem. will's wife? yeah :\). the former is funny and everyone is likable but i'm not in love with it. we'll see how it goes. it was recced by jenna fischer and i looove her so i'm giving it a chance to grow on me some more. ;)
other shows i've been watching for a while and haven't quit: ♥The Office♥ (fave show everrr), Supernatural, and Ugly Betty. i've been meaning to try to watch Bored to Death and catch up with Parks and Recreation and Dexter, but haven't bothered yet. someday. also i tried to watch The Vampire Diaries the other day but the first couple episodes have already been taken off, so i dunno. sigh.
tell me about your shows!
thanks to my dear friend M, i have been reading some amazing (h/d) fic these past few days! one in particular i wanted to point out and encourage everyone to read:
My Old Ways. i sincerely believe it was the funniest thing i've read in my entire life, and while it is weird and in some ways quite cracky, there is such depth and realness to it that i think it's rather unclassifiable. and you know how i said i'd be reading a book soon? it's because of this fic -- the author notes How To Be Good by Nick Hornby as her inspiration, so i'm going to read that myself. he also wrote the novel High Fidelity, which later became a movie i thoroughly enjoyed, so i'm very much looking forward to it. if you want further convincing before you check out the fic, read my comment (it's the last one there for the moment). it's a bit spoilery of course, but there's lots more gushing if you need it. :)
finally, my fourth and last F topic of the night: firefox! as i mentioned, i've been reading some good stories lately, and many of them have been from
hd_career_fair. they host their longer entries off-site, and the font for those pages is enormous. so, i was zooming out while i read and then, being ocd as i am, resetting before i closed the tab. a couple of times ago i apparently forgot to reset, though, because the next time i went there (to a previously unvisited page, might i add), it was still zoomed out. it would seem that firefox, in its infinite wisdom and kindness, remembered my dilemma and took care of it for me! thanks, firefox!! you're the best! ♥
i really shouldn't have stayed up this late, but i was on a roll with the writing and have been wanting to post for a while now. eek! better set another alarm.
