Part 4: Camping out is fun... no really.

Lunch is as usual at the palace... tense. On one side of the long, tacky, golden table sits the remaining Carter children, the other side the king and princess of the Cloud kingdom, and on the ends of the table the king and queen of the Sea Side kingdom.

The children are wearing their normal dinning wear. The girls are wearing their white and gold dresses, gold high heels and blinding gold jewelry, the same as their mother's. Aaron in his white dress shirt with a gold phoenix design along the collar and down the front, bare foot and his perfectly pressed, white pants. Their Father, King Bob, is dressed in his royal red robe with white rabbit fur lining and bordering it. Only the royal family knew that under that robe was just a pair of white boxers and a matching T-shirt.

All with the children with their golden blond hair, that their mother tries to mimic, were trying not to laugh at the Cloud Kingdom's king and princess' blue feather cloaks. And they are trying not to barf at the Princess' large beak like nose, but her dark brown hair, with blond streaks and rash coated pale skin only frames her nose.

"Where is he?" the feathered king demanded, smashing his three-fingered claw onto his plate of mashed potatoes.

"Please forgive our son. He was called away on urgent matters early this morning. Nickolas should be back at any moment," Queen Jane stated thru her falsely, blinding, bright smile. She wore the mask of complete happiness; she rarely goes without it.

"He'd better be, or it will be considered an insult to my beloved dove," The angry King stated and ended with a coo as his claw reached out and caressed his daughter's cheek. His face returned to anger as he added, "And trust me you don't want that to happen." His razor sharp teeth are revealed by his evil looking smile.

"We assure you that the marriage will go through and that will create a bond that will protect and support both our kingdoms." The queen's picture of perfection never faltered at the Cloud King's threats.

"If it doesn't, you will not live long enough to regret it," Snarled the king as his feathers ruffled.

"Such words are not needed. Lest you forget that your kingdom relies heavily on supplies provided by our kingdom," The queen warned as her hair and eyes started to darken with her mood.

"Supplies that we can easily take once we stop protecting your lands," The Cloud King threatened as his already heated tempers rose.

"Don't worry our supplies and lands will be well guarded, if that were to happen," The eight year old blonde prince stated in defense of his home with a surprising seriousness for someone so young. Both his mother the queen and the Cloud King were startled into silence at the prince's statement.

The dark prince stalked up to the merchant's cart mumbling obscenities about Nick.

"Hello, hello. I'm Howard and how may I help you today?" A short man said, throwing on the fakest smile the dark prince had ever encountered. And that was saying something. What 'stuck out' the most was the short man's large nose.

"Food." Kevin simply stated, not wanting to give too much information. He really didn't want to be seen with the spoiled brat, especially in the mood Kevin was in.

"Well then, what would you like to eat?" Howard quickly pulled down the side of his cart, which became a table and revealed an assortment of what could only loosely be called food. His long black hair was pulled into a ponytail and whipped around almost catching on a hook on the bottom side of the table. "We have cured squirrel meat on a stick, fried cow meat balls... the shape of the food, not the actual cow balls and don't worry the furry stuff wipes right off... salted fish strips, raw eel stuffed with nuts... and don't ask which kind, goat's milk and two different kinds of bread shaped in various fertility symbols."

Kevin kept his best non-expression face on. 'He liked the cheese. Ask for cheese.' Kevin could understand why he cared that Nick liked cheese, or anything for that matter.

"Do you have any cheese?"

"I'm afraid the goat cheese didn't turn out so well, my last three customers dropped dead after eating it. I had to leave Stag town rather quickly, if you get my drift." Howard smiled... this time genuinely. His brown eyes sparkled with pride.

Thoughts of demanding the cheese flooded Kevin's mind. Would it be painful enough? Or take long enough for Kevin to enjoy Nick's death? 'The food.' Aaron quickly returned Kevin to the topic at hand. They still had far they could travel before nightfall.

"I'll take six loafs of bread, a bag of the fish and another of the squirrel." Kevin ordered the least vomitist of the food... Anything that didn't make his own turn skin as green as his eyes... Hey he had to eat it too.

"Where are you traveling to?" Howard asked. As Kevin handed him three gold coins in exchange for the bags of food. Fear filled the short merchant's face as he recognized the markings of the Dark Kingdom. "Be careful, there is an ogre not too far from here. Also stay clear of Blood Mountain..."

Kevin stalked back to Nick and the horse, smirking and ignoring the short merchant.

Back at the Palace, it took a while but both royal families fell into an uncomfortable silence while eating.

The children of the Sea Side Kingdom watched in stunned silence at their father. The always happy king acknowledged the offspring with his truly innocent smile. The cutely chubby King was extremely disarming to anyone who has met him. His pure white hair projects a false sense of maturity.

Diligently, King Bob worked on preparing his plate, for what, his children couldn't phantom. The king smoothed out his mashed potatoes into a crescent shape flat on his plate and around the rib eye steak. Once the potatoes were perfectly smooth, the giddy king used his spoon to dig a shallow hole in the potatoes. From a small pile of peas, he selected only the crushed ones to place one by one into the hole in his mashed potatoes. As he covered the peas with a thin layer of mashed potatoes with his left hand, he grabbed the gravy boat with his right hand and gave the burial site with a thick coating of gravy. He finished off his little gravesite with a slice of carrot as a tomb stone. Amongst the muffled giggles of his children, King Bob closed his blue eyes and gave the buried peas a moment of silence.

The moment only last for a second, as the children couldn't hold back their laughter at their entertaining father's antics. He could only smile brightly at them as he dug into the grave and shoveled a large mound into his mouth.

"Do we have to stop now?" The taller elf complains as he dismounts his horse. Pulling his long brown hair back and tying it into a ponytail, he stares off at the River of Life. The river connects all the largest towns.

"Yes, my b-butt is s-sore." Lance blushed at the double meaning. He can't help but think of better ways to make his butt sore when he's around the taller, thin elf. "Unlike you, I-I do not travel a lot. S-s-sorry."

Joshua was annoyed by Lance's apparent weakness. He could travel days without resting. He hadn't considered the short elf's human half in the traveling. It was just another reason to why he had to hated Lance... and another thing he'd have to remind himself about.

'Don't worry. Joshua just thinks you're human half is slowing you down. You've done very well slowing him. Tomorrow you can pick up the pace.' Aaron checked on Lance's progress. Lance was fine, if he didn't stop Joshua they would have caught up with the princes before dawn.

"I just need a m-moment and s-some w-w-water." The mouse-brown haired elf crouched down and fills his water skin in the river.

"We should stay here tonight. You can start the fire." Joshua states as he heads off to hunt for dinner with his bow and arrows. He needs time away from the shorthaired elf, to think about anything else besides the other elf for a moment.

The shorter elf can't help but watch the older, graceful, thin elf slip away into the forest. Lance easily creates a circle of rocks and a stack of dry wood. He wants to prove to Josh that he can do something right. He stands away from the unlit fire stack. Lance concentrates of the stack of wood, points his hand at it and says, "Fire!"

Flame leaps from his hand and starts not only the wood, but also the sleeve of his shirt! "Aaaahhhhh!!!!"

Nick sat and watched as Kevin set up the campfire and laid out his bed for the night.

"What?" the older man barks, staring hard at the ever so innocent looking blonde.

"Where am I going to sleep?" Nick softens his blue eyes, trying to draw pity from the dark haired man.

"On the ground." Kevin snarls through gritted teeth.

"But... I'm a prince. Princes don't sleep on the ground..." Nick's jaw almost hit the ground and his eyes widened at the horrible image of sleeping on the dirt floor.

"You should have thought about that before you stole my horse and ran away." Kevin smirks while he finished his bed of blankets. He can't wait to see this brat sleep on the ground. His emerald eyes twinkled in the light of the fire.

Nick looked from his dirty bare feet to the clean, soft blankets. 'Just be glad he didn't take his shirt back.' Aaron reminded his older brother. The pale blonde quickly buttoned the shirt, missing a button at the top so that it was lopsided.

Nick's stomach rumbled just as Kevin set the bag of food down. Kevin rolled his green eyes.

Nick quickly caught the small loaf of bread tossed at him and then the water skin. But his face is covered with confusion when he sees Kevin bite into a piece of meat on a stick. Nick pouted out, "How come I didn't get any meat?"
