Today I share some links Todd emailed me after I went to bed last night. I'll include his comments for the full experience, shall I? Why not.

Think he was trying to tell me something?

In other news, I watched Factory Girl last night. Terrible. Can't stand Sienna Miller and her selfconscious performances. And I didn't think for one single moment that I was watching Edie Sedgwick. She failed to convey Edie's X-factor entirely and seemed more intent on copying her nuances - poorly. She just wasn't good enough to headline the movie or to play such a difficult part. Guy Pearce was quite good in a badly written role and even worse make up. He got the body language down pat and, in his case, I did get the feeling I was watching Andy Warhol for much of it. And who was Hayden Christensen meant to be? Bob Dylan? An amalgam of folk hipsters? He was never named and he didn't resemble anyone I could think of, neither physically, personality-wise nor character-wise. I can't remember if Edie ever did fall in love with Bob Dylan. I'll have to look it up.* Anyway, Hayden Christensen, hey? Not sure what I think of him as an actor, but I remember at one point looking at the screen thinking, So here's two Brits and an Aussie playing the three central roles in a movie about prominent American artists. What does this mean? But I decided it meant nothing and went back to the movie, which I could barely stay awake for I was so tired. Then I went to bed at a normal hour (10:30pm) and woke up at 5:58am. A normal night's sleep for once in my life.

OK, well, I have to go exploring Thingpart now. Oh, one niggling concern regarding the slavery play those 5th graders (above) wrote - well, the most glaring of many - was that they neglected to explain how Sarah knew where to send her letter. Interested Aussies would like to know. However, I did think the "Hey, George", "Hey, buddy" lines were pretty cool so that sort of made up for it. It reminded me a lot of having to write a joint play in Year 7. If I had one consistent aversion at school, it was that, from Kindergarten to Year 12, I always hated group projects. I either wanted to lead them, though stressful, or just opt out. I couldn't maintain momentum or interest any other way. (Me, an all-or-nothing person with a future of drug addiction ahead of her? Whatever are you talking about?) Anyway, I got to play some stupid, tizzy space cadet in our Year 7 play and my one line was something like, "Oh, he's such a dreamboat!" I don't remember there being a '50s bent to the girls from space, but I do remember that line was penned by the teacher. And although it was a huge relief not to have to play the lead like I was always picked to do at the Japanese school (out of a very small class, I might add) - nor have to learn all those lines (in Japanese!) - I did feel maligned to be doled out this token "everyone gets dialogue!" part. Mrs Carmel already had her favourites; I don't think we even got to audition. And, thus, my fall from grace to humiliation at the beginning of my high school career was substantial.

* Wikipedia, the source of all finite truth in this world, concurs with me, however they said he was called Billy Quin. I totally missed that. They also mention Bob Dylan "is apparently" suing for defamation because the film implied he was the source of her ultimate demise.

ETA: I have just been informed by the wondrous
brokenblossom that Cyd Charisse has just died at the age of 87. We were talking about her not two or three days ago! What a hoofer that woman was, oh my... We are both bereft, although she had a good innings. RIP, Cyd.
