Merlin Season 5 Starting Tonight!

It just feels like such a long wait between seasons of Merlin, more than any other show (well except Sherlock. That has elephant gestation long breaks). I'm very much looking forward to it starting tonight. It heralds the start of winter for me! Plus I love this little show. I know I bitch a little bit about certain things and mock it a bit, but it ( Read more... )

Hey! Looks like we're both really hyped for Merlin. Don't know if you're in the UK or not (I actually just left yesterday, duh) and are able to watch it live. Well, I'm not, so there's a few more hours wait ahead of me ...

Oh man, your list. Raised about every issue I have with this show (and still I love it to death, despite all my misgivings). Like the Gwen thing and the overdue magical reveal and the times when they stray too far from the Merlin/Arthur storylines. I'm apprehensive about a lot of things, actually, and hope I won't hate the new season too much. The latter half of the last season was a huge letdown, in my opinion ... let's hope they learned from their mistakes (if they even saw them as such!).

Man, I do miss Lancelot. I'm still not over TPTB killing him off. I think I'm most apprehensive about how they are going to deal with Gwen - like you, I just cannot find anything interesting about her character, and I've tried for four seasons. They would be much better off if they would just let her slink to the sidelines, but I fear we're going to be treated to the "Gwen coming into her own as Queen" plot, ugh ... so much screentime wasted that could be better used for more Merlin/Arthur!

I've given up hope there will ever be a magical reveal, to be honest. I was so sure it was going to come in S4, but now I think they'll drag it out until the last episode of the series. I think it's a very cowardly choice on behalf of TPTB, but what can you do.

Okay, now I've started ranting even before I've watched a minute of S5. I'm still super mega excited about it and can't wait for Arthur and Merlin to grace my screen again. Arthur as established King is going to be a BLAST! We'll have the round table and Arthur trying to do the right thing and building Albion ... that alone gives me goosebumps. :-)
