A new Les Misérables film is slated for a 2012 release date.
WHY?!?
I still ... I just ... I'm really not sure how to feel about this. I mean, okay *deep breath* let's see if I can evaluate this impartially ...
Pros:
→ Geoffrey Rush is in it (as Thénardier. He played Javert in the 1998 film adaptation), which is an automatic win!
→ Helena Bonham Carter as Mme. Thénardier
→ Tom Hooper (who directed The King's Speech) has signed on as a director
→ Cameron Mackintosh is a producer for it
→ William Nicholson (screenwriter for Gladiator) is doing the Screenplay
Middle ground between Pros & Cons:
→ Emma Watson as Cosette (I'm just glad it's not Claire Danes. Dear lord, she butchered Cosette in the 1998 film version)
→ Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean (Let's just say that I'll believe it when I see it)
→ Russell Crowe as Javert (I'll be the first to admit, I'm not the biggest Crowe fan, so I'm still kind of skeptical about this)
→ who they cast as Marius and Enjolras. If I have only one request for this please make Enjolras hotter than Marius, and Marius to be less of a pussy than he was in the 1998 film version it's for them to not screw up Enjolras' part.
Cons:
→ ANNE HATHAWAY AS FANTINE
→ Why do they keep beating Les Miserables with a stick?
→ IF THEY MAKE THIS LIKE THAT MONSTROSITY THAT WAS the 2004
Phantom of the Opera musical/film I seriously think I might have to see if I can get a refund on my ticket >:D I might just never forgive Hollywood.
→ Related to the above point ... Can anyone honestly see Russell Crowe trying to sing Javert's part? brbloling forever at the image
→ Did I mention Hathaway as Fantine? Yes? Oh well ... I do what I want, so I'm listing it twice.
Seriously, fml. *sighs* I'm such a Les Miserables fangirl/junkie, so I'll probably end up seeing this, but still ... WHY?!? I feel so conflicted.
