Dear Margaret Clark,
Thanks so much for letting us read your work. We do so appreciate your interest in the Camera Obscura Journal and that you chose to entrust your story with us. Unfortunately, this story was not chosen for publication. Take heart, competition has been stiff for the Winter Issue, and we must decline many worthy stories. We wish you much success with your writing.
Thanks again,
The Editors
Camera Obscura Journal
I've spent the last few hours looking for another place to send this piece to, but I'm coming up empty. "Novelette" is a tricky length, and with certain intimations of suspense, it's too genre-y for most publications. I feel like I have two options, really:
1) Save it for such a time when I have enough stories of its kind to create a collection, and submit that to small publishers; or
2) Publish it online -- specifically, on
this blog -- in an effort to build readership.
ETA: I went with the nudge and started posting it on the aforementioned blog. Thanks for the push,
stefan11 -- I just broke first publication rights for the first time for original fiction!
