Short of ripping on David Archuleta from American Idol, I have little to say tonight. Making fun of that kid seems kind of mean, and it would only encourage
lolcatz to post a retaliatory comment about Michael Johns. So, let's turn from my own musings tonight and hear what other people have to say about the world.
Here are some kind words spoken by
Jeanne Stein, author of the awesome Anna Strong series, about
Storm Born:
"Richelle Mead has created in Eugenie Markham a terrific new character as comfortable with a gun in her hand as a wand. She’s a shaman who goes after dangerous creatures who cross over from the Otherworld into our own. But Eugenie soon finds she is not only known to the denizens
of a world she’s committed to destroy, but may well be destined to become their leader. A great start to a thrilling new series."
And here--in a surprise review I never knew existed until yesterday--is what urban fantasy giant and pioneer
Charles de Lint had to say about
Vampire Academy in Fantasy and Science Fiction:
"...I certainly had fun with this one. Mostly that's due to the fact that we follow the story through Rose's first person point-of-view. She's got one of those smart, sassy voices and an attitude to match, so it's always entertaining to be in her company.
The pace is quick, the plotting full of twists and turns, and Mead does a fine job of balancing high school politics with the supernatural. But it was that voice of Rose's that I took away and remembered in the end."
Thanks, Jeanne and Charles. I'm flattered and grateful.
And David Archuleta: stop with the giggling already.
