My parents finally picked up the new car today. It's a Volkswagen Passat (surprise!), now bringing our grand total to three. We now have to start playing musical cars in the driveway. I must say, it looks pretty impressive so far, even though I have only seen it from the rear and the side, since it was already in the garage when I got home yesterday. I had to squeeze the car I was driving inbetween the other two and, let me tell you, I don't look forward to doing that everyday. The new car is pretty big; it looks like it wants to jump to the other side of the garage. It's very high-tech, too. There are a lot of computer gadgets in there that are supposed to impress, but really just make me nervous. I felt like I was in an airplane. Cars and computers, I think, are always unreliable. Put the two together and I'm ready to freak out. Interestingly, there is also no ignition and no regular car key. Instead, there is a key "fob" which you insert into an opening on the dashboard, then press a button. That's how it turns on. Crazy, right??
We got the third car because my parents and I all need to drive to work (usually my dad takes the train into the city but for the last couple of months, he's had to go to Mount Vernon, which is a really long, tough commute.) Also, we thought we were going to have to get rid of the oldest car (stupid dealer!), but it's now behaving itself (thanks to our regular mechanic.) The funny part is that nobody wanted to take it to work- Dad, b/c the commute is too tough, and Mom and me b/c, well, we don't even understand the key fob. So, Mom and I carpooled again, which is why I'm at work an hour before I'm supposed to be.
Tonight we might all go for a spin in it, so I'm looking forward to that. I'd like to try and bond with it, or at least figure out how to turn it on, before I really have to drive it...
