Character Survey [In progress]
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? Sky is about 6 feet tall and a little lanky, though well-muscled from his work and extensive physical training.
2. How old is he? In canon, he's 20 years old, though in ES he doesn't and never will know this as it's never actually mentioned onscreen (and thus is impossible to obtain through a memory).
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? He always carries himself straight and proud.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? Sky takes care of his body very well and is in excellent shape. The only thing he has close to a physical disability is his bad right shoulder; it was dislocated once in an attack and sometimes bothers him when he's had a hard workout or fight, or the weather is bad.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? He tends to be pretty fluid in his movements, especially when he's morphed and/or fighting.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? Sky's mun thinks he's extremely physically attractive; Sky himself doesn't give much through to his physical appearance and how he perceives himself.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? He has clear skin, though often has bruises and cuts all over his body, considering his line of work.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. He has dirty blond hair that's usually styled with a spike/cowlick in the front and always well-trimmed and neat. It's canon that he takes time to style his hair every morning.
9. What color are his eyes? Blue
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? Nope!
11. What are his chief tension centers? Probably his arms- shoulders/elbows/wrists, as his primary weapons are spears and swords.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? Sky tends to dress in clothing that's comfortable, easy to move around in, cool in summer and warm in winter, and won't get in the way in a fight. One of these days I'll have him get a tailor to make him a copy of his S.P.D. jacket... He tends to dress in the colors blue and red a lot, in the proud tradition of every Ranger before and after him.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? See above- due to his work he likes to dress loose and comfortable.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? On the job he tends to wear his Ranger suit, and even when off-duty he always has a weapon close to hand (mainly the truncheon/billyclub Stoneface gave him for his birthday).
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? Boxers.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? He often says "perfect" in a rather sarcastic tone. Since his actor is Canadian, he sometimes has a bit of a Canadian accent, though this is hard to convey through a written RP.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? Sky's native language is English. I have it headcanoned that he knows some Spanish (as a police officer, I imagine he's had some training in it) and perhaps a bit of other alien languages, due to the extremely cosmopolitan society he lives and works in, but this has yet to crop up in ES.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? No.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
4. What kind of education has the character had? Not much was ever explained about the type of education the Rangers receive at the Ranger Academy- presumably Sky attended normal school for at least some years before joining S.P.D. It is known that they have training in weapons, martial arts, and Zord operation at the very least.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? Very much introverted, even around people he's comfortable with.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? React, though he's working to improve this.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight? Fight.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? Not as far as canon ever showed.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? In his pre-Edensphere life, his father's death definitely had the biggest impact on him. It made him want to be the Red Ranger and defined his career as an S.P.D. cadet- he trained and worked to be Red all of his life.
14. What does he fear? At the moment, his greatest fear is that he'll die or disappear and come back not remembering Inara and everything she's done for him, and going back to the person he was when he first arrived in the Sphere.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. Sky does not remember his mother, and nothing was ever said of her in canon, either. However, he has had a memory involving his father, and feels the same adoration/hero worship toward him he did in canon.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? Sky was never shown to have any siblings in canon; I always assume he was an only child due to being a mutant.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? None of Sky's relatives beyond his parents were ever mentioned.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? Not really. It took most of canon for Sky to treat the rest of the team like his friends instead of just his colleagues. In Edensphere, Stoneface is something of a father figure to him, but nobody else meets that qualification.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? In both canon and ES, his closest friends are Bridge and Ghost (Jack).
6. Does he have other close friends? Yes. Stoneface and Bastet are both his friends and the two people he respects the most. He also feels fairly close to Blood.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? Definitely trouble getting along with people. His cold, serious and work-minded exterior can be hard to crack through at first.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? Neither. XD
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? He has been in a serious relationship with his girlfriend Inara since June of 2009.
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? No.
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? Inara to both.
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? In canon, Sky was never shown to be interested in romance at all, and in Edensphere, it's a bit hard to define because he's only ever been with Inara.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any? No, he's too young for that, and ES does not allow for characters to have children (thankfully).
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale? Sky thinks that his sexuality is nobody's business but his and his girlfriend's. If pressed, he'd identify as either straight or Inara-sexual.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? Sex is something that Sky definitely enjoys, especially considering that Inara's profession in her pre-ES life amounted to "professional prostitute", but to him, it's not nearly an integral part of his relationship with her, either.
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type? Nope
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? Sky is not religious by any means.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? He's apparently pretty comfortable, but this was never discussed in canon. Jack/Ghost did once complain that the Rangers don't get much of a salary, and they do get room and board.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? Sky always tries to eat healthy and avoids alcohol (except for an occasional beer at Smoke's) and most junk foods. He has a soft spot for pork buns.
