If you've been running outside lately, I would attribute it to the colder weather. My throat feels kind of raw if I run outside if it's less than like 60 degrees sometimes. I wouldn't call it "extreme pain," but it can hurt a bit, especially if you're breathing extremely heavily.

If you're breathing really heavily you might try slowing the run down a little bit...it may help?

That's true, it may have something to do with the cold. Still, it's definitely beyond hurting "a bit" or being "kind of raw."

I do start walking when my breathing gets heavy, and it does help some.

Hmm..Not to delve into personal medical stuff on LJ, but you might want to get tested for asthma, too, just in case. My understanding is that the symptoms can be slightly different for different people.

I'd be very, very surprised if it was asthma. I don't have trouble breathing, it's just that it hurts like a bitch.

Gotcha. I mainly only mentioned asthma because you'd mentioned coughing, and supposedly some people with mild asthma don't need an inhaler or feel major constriction, they just cough. But, I'm no expert! :)
