I finished watching the movie Gothika, [starring Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz and Robert Downey Jr.] tonight and I thought it was interesting. I know, I use that word a lot.. it is one of my favorite words, I must say. :) Heh, anyways it was neat. Even though to some people, some of the shit in the film was too much of a rehash of old horror movies and it was kind of under-performed I guess (?), it was still a neat flick. I got to learn about something I never knew anything about before, and that is the
Anima Sola symbol. Anima Sola means 'lonely soul'. It is usually portrayed as a woman trapped in purgatory. (Check the link for a more complete explanation.) In the movie, Halle plays Dr. Miranda Gray, a doctor of psychology who is later committed to the psych ward of the women's prison where she worked. Miranda sees Chloe (Penelope Cruz), a former patient, being raped by a man with an Anima Sola tattoo on his chest, but she doesn't see his face. Chloe claimed he was the Devil. She later discovers that the man is one of the prison guards. You can only imagine how that went. ^_^
Anyway, I thought it was a neat tattoo idea but I don't know if I'd ever get it on *my* body. It's a very descriptive, meaningful symbol though. Very neat. I'm just not very religious. I definitely wouldn't get it as a religious symbol. If anything, it would be a personal thing.
That's all, I just wanted to add that to my menagerie of thoughts. :)
