There is a warning

Ok, so I wrote this when I realized that I might be a bit depressed. Not a deep depression, but the kind that just kind of ticks at you. I AM OK!! I sat down to try and write this out so that I could understand myself a little bit better. When I was done I re-read it and thought the analogy would work for other people as well, and I think the message in general is worth sharing, so here it is.

I have decided that I am a little bit depressed. I have also decided a good way to describe my depression. It is a simple analogy, but it is effective I think. My depression is like the wind. It is sometimes quiet, almost nonexistent. Sometimes it is merely blowing a bit on and off throughout the day. Sometimes however, it is raging, tearing down things in my life that were once rooted deeply. The thing that is most intolerable about my depression is that my depression, like the wind, is always there to some degree. I know that I have reached times of utter happiness before, and I cannot fully understand how that fits in with my analogy but I know it does in the way that sometimes you know some things are absolute truths. Sometimes I feel like I have a wind breaker jacket, that keeps my heart and chest safe from the wind, but my head is still taken in by its chill. The windbreaker is a miraculous thing, because no matter how long it stays in the cold, the body underneath the windbreaker remains warm. In those times I am completely backwards with joy, even though my head is filled with reasons why I should not be. I thank God for those times, because He is the one who dictates my wardrobe in terms of true cold protection. Sometimes I try to fill in with a man made hoodie, that covers both the heart, chest, and head. The thing about hoodies, is that hoodies do not keep you truly warm. They merely hide the cold. If you keep a hoodie out in the cold long enough though, it will not warm your body. It is, in terms of this analogy, a lot like a drink (could be replaced by substance, self-induced health problem, sexual impurity, or abusive behavior) many people use to hide their sadness, guilt, or any type of inner turmoil. Eventually though, the taste and effect it has on its drinker gets taken in by its surrounding, and becomes a part of the thing, from which it was supposed to be protecting its user. The thing that makes it worse is that the user is already wearing something that they think fights off the cold. They are numb to the fact that it has, not only lost its ability to do that, but it has become part of the cold from which they are hiding. They are so numb to it, that they do not realize that the cold is still chilling their bodies, or that they need to put on something that truly keeps the wind away. I believe that depression is like the wind. It is cold.

I am glad I have a windbreaker.

please post thoughts. I want to know if I am accurate.
