"Just because you have the tech, doesn't mean you ultimatively, constantly forceably have to use it!"

No, because it sells. Everyone rants about it, yet they storm the movie theaters like lemmings. Film producers don't give a shit about artistic quality. They want to sell this shit, and as long as people eat their shit, it will be produced.

The directors know about this. The producers don't give a shit. They care about target group analysis, marketable elements, attractiveness of the protagonist to the audience, "owning the 3D space", enhancing brand loyalty, and so on.

For example, Disney's target audience for their new 3D enhanced films is "The Anxious Parent" who are afraid of "Their Children growing up too fast" in a "hyperconnected" world. The stragety is to provide some "long needed hakuna matata" so parents can "share their childrens journey" in "difficult economic times".

See, that's the shit directors have to put up with. No wonder some of them don't give a shit about the actual product, as long as they fulfill all their producer's requirements (like the ones stated above), they will get paid.

If they make the perfect movie, with a wonderfully told story, masterfully photographed ... but they fail to meet their producers objectives, they are fucked.

I don't agree here. There are enough production houses and their associated producers who are absolutely willing to give the director artistic freedom and likewise there are enough directors willing to step up and make truly compelling and interesting films. The main problem is here, they might win prizes, but they don't win the boxoffice. Look no further than Cannes, Oscars or the Sundance: Big, major studios and producers pushing high quality films. Saddly they need the odd «2022» or «Transfromers» to actualy produce revenue ( ... )
