"I have come home to my people" (or something along those words) is what I answered Timothy Albee, when he enquired how I was feeling at this years MMC.
And that was the most accurate description fitting my feelings right then: I was amongst kindred souls once again. I was enjoying evenings with old friends, which I see far too rarely. I was sucking up the creative energy which is so unique for the European Furry Artists.
I once started to doubt myself. I started wondering I am just another Artist who just happens to like to draw animal-headed people. That is even correct on a technical basis. However, this years MMC showed me clearly that I connect not only with the arts, it is also the people connected to that art. All the creative Aspects really move me... Fursuiting, Video, Music, the creative buzz, some I can fully connect with, others just rise my curiosity but they never leave me passive.
Just to explain what I mean I would like to credit two new people I got to know: Balorkin and Divided Wolf both had Art on display. I was very thrilled and attracted. Or I would like to mention old friends:
Bloodhoundomega,
morier_the_dark and
Tascun who were my roomies and such excellent hosts. I have known them since my first Days in the European Fandom. We share our interests and vibes, and have a nack for knowing exactly, when to leave eachother enough room. I was thrilled to see bubbly Nelena again. If I now could just get my arse to stay more calm and less bouncy, those on the Alley would be grateful. Whenever I am not doing arts or talking about arts with people, I grab a beer and just let the impressions fly by. Mingling and relaxing down by the campfire, I usually find artistic folk doing the same too: It was usually there, when I got to talk with
Tanidareal,
Alpha_Ki or
Jaryic. A very impressive blast from the past came up, when
Akeela approached me, trying to talk Swiss German with me (as he had lived here aeons ago).
But it is not only the people, it is the convention as a whole: The castle with the "Artists Wing" and the "Suiter Wing" with the inner courtyard and the artists room and the artshow/alley right in the centre is ideal! Everything is so compact and bursting with energy. Equally the weater: Hot and sunny for the entire duration. The con finished on Sunday, but as it was a public holiday in Germany on Monday, you could stay on for a day. Others would call the evening event "Dead Dog's Party" I would however call that additional Day "Wind-down and Relax Party"
Something which filled me with pride was a little project I developed with
Bigbluefox at very short notice before the convention: He had someone draw live at one of his sets in the US and I was eager to give it a try too. The nearer the dance drew, the more I was getting nervous and wanting to chicken out. So I started looking round for someone to accompany me, and Alpha_Ki was cool enough to give it a try whilst Tani wanted to try to draw while wearing her Savoy Suit. What a blast that was... Music, Light and me drawing along... Like a dream. I want that again! I am truly addicted!
I didn't have much of
PatriX_Darkhoof this con but I see him every odd weekend, whilst some of my Friends I only see once or twice a year. I think it was better that way, as I am sure he was glad to have time with Timothy for instance, without my bouncy energy round him all the time. It is amusing however, how folk now seem more interested in approaching the horse at cons... and apparently they are hitting on him too *giggles* Go' Way! Mine! XD
Booty was good: I sold some stuff in the Artists Alley but the sales in the Show were the worst of my convention career: As I bought a Picture from
Nimrais, my Art Show Bulletin is in the red :D
I got some really very very nice sketches in my Sketchbook and a very cute key chain from BHO for my birthday. Thank you all sooooooo much!
