Chapter 16
Ah, rice balls. Kame loved rice balls. Ah, mornings. Kame loved mornings…although he loved the nights just a bit more.
Ah, Jin. Kame loved Jin. Kame especially loved Jin, not to mention how he loved to sit by Jin’s gang’s usual table at breakfast eating a rice ball morning after morning and most importantly enjoying the feeling of Jin sitting next to him and how the older boy would brush against him every time Jin moved which was a lot.
He had done it. He had retrieved his place next to Jin…okay, so he had technically never lost it and he hadn’t really succeeded in doing anything except for giving News one hell of a laugh at AT-TUN’s expense, as well as his own of course, but otherwise Kame felt like a winner.
Every since the night it had become clear to Jin that Yamapi had just been playing a prank on them both, Jin had once more started taking Kame with him everywhere…
Kame shook himself out of his thoughts as he felt Jin move beside him again and Kame noticed how the gang got up. Jin looked at him curiously as if wanting to know why Kame was still sitting when the gang had obviously decided on something exciting to do already. Kame hurried to stand up as well and followed Jin and the four friends up the stairs and back to the west side.
Eyes turned their way as they walked. It had shocked most prisoners how Akanishi Jin’s boy toy, whose relationship with his master otherwise also had become questionable during the year Kame had spent with the leader in the cell, had first betrayed his master with his master’s worst rival, gotten banged by the whole News next and still been allowed to have his old place back as Akanishi’s boy toy. At least that was how the general rumor went about what had happened, but Jin was set on telling the true story where Kame had not been with the entire News...leaving out the part where Yamapi had fooled them all, of course.
It was an exciting game of poker the gang had decided to entertain themselves with, Kame noticed as they stepped into Jin’s and his cell, and Jin took the pack of cards from under his mattress.
They had barely started on the first game when the guard Kame remembered to be Koichi knocked on the cell bars.
“Hey.” the guard greeted. “I heard about Kame-chan, that’s such a relief…”
“Ah, yep, News were just playing with us-” Jin started when chocking on his own sentence. “…Uh, yeah, News never got anything from Kazu-chan. It was only Pi bragging over nothing again.” the leader then said, throwing an arm around Kame’s waist.
The rest of AT-TUN looked at Jin with expressions that clearly stated ‘that is not our leader, in fact that guy is not even part of our gang…’
“Well, that’s good to hear…I guess.” Koichi replied. “Anyway, I was just doing a round in the west corridor so I thought I’d pop by.”
“Are you guarding the north side too?” Jin couldn’t help but to ask and Koichi stopped dead in his tracks where the guard had already been on his way out of the cell.
“I wasn’t assigned to do so today, no.” Koichi then said, clearing his throat.
“Mmm, but I bet you will anyway~” Jin pushed on. “I mean, who knows maybe he will tell you something more today…”
Koichi just stared at the AT-TUN leader for a while. “You know he won’t. I don’t understand why I am the only one who is not allowed to know. Not even the other guards want to tell me his background.”
“You know how Tsuyoshi hates guards, except you of course…” Jin teased. “He’d rather have them obey him than let them order him around.”
“So why won’t you tell me what he’s done? You run this prison, right? And am I not an ally of yours too?” Koichi then asked, and Kame was quite taken aback by Koichi’s forwardness. Should Kame even be here right now? This was really between Jin and his allies, and Kame - as the boy toy - shouldn’t see or hear too much, right?
Jin tightened the arm around his waist and rested his chin on Kame’s shoulder.
“Really? You are? You know, Koichi-chan-senpai, you’ve never actually said that out loud before.” Jin teased and Koichi’s face turned a bit redder than a while ago.
“You know what I mean. I help you and I- Look, why won’t you tell me what he’s done? Why is it kept such a secret from me?” Koichi insisted.
“Would you really want to hear it from me then?” Jin asked and Koichi hesitated. The look upon the man’s face slowly turned from annoyed to almost sad.
“He will never tell me anyway…” Koichi then replied.
“You know he will.” Jin said, circling also his other arm around Kame’s waist. “Be patient. God knows he has been…and still is.”
Koichi shot him a glare, which probably would’ve stroke more fear in the AT-TUN leader hadn’t it been covered with a furious blush.
“I’ve got to get back to work…” the guard then muttered, turning around and storming out of the cell.
“Okay, bye Koichi-chan-senpai~” Jin called after the other man, turning back towards the game on the floor.
“W-what was that all about?” Kame asked as they were alone. He hadn’t really meant it as a question that required an answer, actually he had never meant to open his mouth, but Junno still gave him a quick reply.
“Love.” Junno joked, proud to have kept it as a short one too, and glanced over at Ueda to see if the boy was smiling behind his hand.
“Do you wanna know?” Ueda asked.
Kame hesitated. “I didn’t mean to be nosy.” he assured and Jin laid the arm back around him again, as if to let him know he hadn’t done anything wrong.
“You can’t tell Koichi-chan-senpai this.” Jin said and Kame nodded. “The reason many know about Tsuyoshi’s past but don’t tell it to Koichi-chan-senpai is because we all know Tsuyoshi wants to do something kinky with Koichi-cha-”
“Let me explain this.” Ueda sighed. “Koichi’s fallen for Tsuyoshi. Tsuyoshi wants Koichi and uses Koichi’s desire to find out about Tsuyoshi’s past against Koichi. He gives Koichi some hints about his past and his crimes and Koichi strives to get more out of him. At the same time Tsuyoshi corners Koichi more and more. It can only end like this; one day Tsuyoshi will succeed in getting Koichi and Koichi’s running away from him will be over, but then Koichi will finally know about Tsuyoshi’s past too.”
“Koichi-cha- …er, Koichi-senpai is in love with Tsuyoshi? Then does Tsuyoshi feel the same? Is he in love with a guard?” Kame asked, suddenly very into the story.
“Well…nobody has ever had the guts to ask Tsuyoshi, so we don’t know. All we know is that Tsuyoshi has the hots for Koichi and it’s been like that ever since Tsuyoshi was caught and came here.” Koki explained.
“Tsuyoshi was new in prison at that time. He wasn’t new in the business, of course, but he had just never been caught before.” Junno continued.
“Business? Is he also a thief?” Kame asked carefully.
“No.” Maru said in turn. “But I think it’s safe to say he is a criminal and a much feared one around here too.”
“Honestly, north-wingers are all just psychos.” Jin muttered.
“Maybe they are all put there on purpose.” Koki pondered.
Kame felt that the gang didn’t really want to discuss Tsuyoshi’s background, so Kame decided not to push on the subject and asked instead, “When was this?”
“Long ago, years before we were taken in.” Koki answered. “Tsuyoshi has never feared authority. Most of us agree on the fact that he would’ve tried to escape plenty of times if it wasn’t for Koichi.”
“So Koichi’s good at his job?” Kame drew the conclusion.
“Mmm, more like not so good. You see, the thing is he is, like he said, one of Jin’s allies.” Maru replied instead of Koki. Somehow Kame felt like those two had started to complete each other sentences even more than before. Also, what was those looks he kept seeing them share always a little longer than necessary?
“I don’t really follow…” Kame said, feeling a little stupid.
“Look, when Tsuyoshi was first taken in he tried to escape immediately and he has gotten the furthest out of here than any other fugitive.” Junno said with a sunny smile.
“…except for Gackt.” Ueda filled in.
“Right, of course, Gackt made it all the way out before he was taken back in, but Tsuyoshi made it far too.” Junno corrected. “Anyway, Koichi had just started working here as a new guard when Tsuyoshi was captured…”
…
“Domoto-kun, we are moving the new prisoner to his cell now!” a guard called out and Koichi hurried over to him and the prisoner in question they were to escort.
“Well, how about that… We have the same last name you and I.” the prisoner greeted him with a smirk on his lips.
Koichi gave the prisoner a quick look. He looked like a trouble-maker for sure. Koichi secretly hoped he wouldn’t have to guard the part of the prison where that prisoner was staying.
“We’re taking him to one of the special cells. Johnny-san insisted we keep him under a closer observation at first.” the guard informed and Koichi nodded. They started walking down the long corridor, turning left halfway there and into another, shorter corridor.
Koichi couldn’t tear his eyes off the prisoner walking in front of him. Silently he wondered what this prisoner could have done to be taken to a special cell immediately. Johnny was quite proud of his joint, old as it may be, and so didn’t easily send prisoners over to the more heavily guarded cells. After all there hadn’t even been many attempts to escape. The old man thought he had a totally safe prison.
They stopped outside a cell and the other guard fumbled after his keys to open the door.
Koichi was quite annoyed with the way this new prisoner looked at him, but he was not to show any emotions. He was a guard and he would have to act like one too. He could not afford to lose his authority in front of prisoners or show them any signs of hesitation or fear.
“You’re quite pretty for a guard.” the prisoner spoke to him again and Koichi tried to ignore the comment. The other man was just trying to get to him, he told himself and kept his cool.
“So your name is also Domoto, right? That could cause a lot of confusion if there are two of us, what’s your first name?”
When Koichi didn’t answer, the prisoner gave a small playful bow.
“Oh, sorry, sorry! How rude of me! My name is Domoto Tsuyoshi.” the other man then continued and Koichi met his eyes. This Tsuyoshi didn’t seem like the type who’d give up before he got an answer.
“Koichi.” Koichi gave up and replied. A smile spread over the prisoner’s face.
“Koichi, eh?” the man repeated his name. “I knew it had to be something pretty… Are you a Ko-chan then? Koi, maybe?”
His fellow guard finally opened the door and they moved Tsuyoshi into the cell. Koichi then proceeded to unlock the handcuffs Tsuyoshi wore, after confirming it was alright from the other guard.
“You’re new here, right?” Tsuyoshi teased and turned to give Koichi better access to the cuffs.
Koichi didn’t reply. He didn’t know why, but something about Tsuyoshi made him feel really unsettled. It was almost as if the boy could see right through him and with only one look figure out how he wasn’t used to the routines around here yet and that he still felt very insecure.
As he had gotten one of the prisoner’s wrists free from the handcuffs he suddenly felt Tsuyoshi move. Before he knew what had happened he found himself being thrown to the side and his fellow guard was knocked out with one effortless punch from Tsuyoshi.
He never had a chance to get a hold on himself before Tsuyoshi had already reached back to him again and grabbed a hold on him, pressing up against his body from behind. For a moment there Koichi thought he was going to get knocked unconscious as well, but Tsuyoshi just held him firmly, one hand circling around his waist and the other one holding what Koichi found to be his own weapon. Koichi wondered when the boy had had the chance to take the baton from him that now rested across his chest. Everything had happened so fast and Tsuyoshi wasted no more time, pushing him to walk forwards until they reached the guard on the floor.
“Now I don’t want to hurt you, so play along and you’ll get out of this.” Tsuyoshi spoke into his ear and Koichi felt the boy lower himself down behind him to snatch the chain of keys his fellow guard had had with him plus some more weapons that Tsuyoshi stuffed into the edge of his pants.
“Okay, let’s go.” the prisoner said then, pushing him out of the cell.
“Y-you’ll never make it out of here, even if you do something to me. Nobody has ever escaped from this prison.” Koichi tried in a desperate attempt to reason with the other boy.
“Hey, there is a first for everything, right?” Tsuyoshi replied and Koichi couldn’t believe the guy could act so calm when he had just gotten himself into a hell of a lot more trouble.
They reached the cell doors that led out to the main corridor they had just walked on and Tsuyoshi got through a couple of cell doors before guards appeared in front of them. Koichi felt the weapon pressed against his chest higher to his throat and he leant backwards as much as he could to try to escape the quite cold material.
“He’s got a hostage!”
“Yup. Let’s not scare poor Ko-chan here any further, so back away.” Tsuyoshi said and the guards doubtfully complied, stepping back.
“On the floor, all of you. Face down and hands above your heads.” Tsuyoshi then commanded and as the guards did as they were told the prisoner made his way through the rest of the locked doors, Koichi still pressed tightly against him.
“You’re only making it worse for yourself.” Koichi spoke out as they entered the main hall and to his surprise Tsuyoshi pushed him aside.
“We’re taking another route. There are too many guards this way.” Tsuyoshi said, ignoring the rest.
Koichi wasn’t really sure how Tsuyoshi planned to escape as the only way out of the prison led down the hall and past lots of other guards, but something told him Tsuyoshi was too professional to not know that by now.
“Please. They’re going to hurt you if you don’t turn yourself in while you still have the chance.” Koichi tried again and Tsuyoshi turned him around so that they were standing face to face.
“Aw, are you worried about me? That’s cute.” the boy just smirked, running the baton down Koichi’s cheek.
“I’m serious. You’re going to get yourself injured, worse maybe.” Koichi insisted.
“You underestimate me.” Tsuyoshi murmured and jerked him closer until their lips met. Koichi wanted to push away, but instead found a better use of the little time he had just bought.
The click from the handcuffs made Tsuyoshi break the kiss and direct his attention to his still cuffed wrist which he found was now attached to something…or someone.
As Tsuyoshi’s eyes returned onto his, Koichi swore he had never felt so terrified in his whole life but there was no way he could run away now as he had taken the opportunity to cuff their wrists together.
“Now this was an unexpected move from you.” Tsuyoshi said.
“You underestimated me.” Koichi shot back and a smile broke out on Tsuyoshi’s face.
“Well, I was planning on letting you go unharmed once I had gotten all the way out, but now…” the prisoner replied stepping forwards as Koichi took a step backwards, not to very much use anyway as they were still cuffed together, and he was soon pulled back even closer to the other man than what he had been a minute ago.
“You’re leaving me with very little choice. I’m afraid I won’t be able to just let you walk…unless of course you hand me the keys to the handcuffs.” Tsuyoshi said, tempting him to give up but Koichi wasn’t about to no matter how scared he’d get.
He slowly shook his head and Tsuyoshi shot him a playful pout.
“No? I didn’t think so either.” the other one sighed. “Okay, let’s see… Where could you have hid them…?” Tsuyoshi mumbled and ran hands over the front of Koichi’s chest, then down his back and inspected the pockets in his pants next.
Koichi gave out a sound in protest and pulled away from the touches.
“I don’t have them on me.” he replied and Tsuyoshi’s hands paused on his hips for a while. “They’re back in the cell. I lost them when you attacked us.”
“Well, that complicates things a lot for me…” Tsuyoshi sighed. “I guess I’ll just have to take you with me then.”
Koichi took a desperate look around to find something to grab as Tsuyoshi proceeded to pull him with him.
“Stop it!” he shouted and it made Tsuyoshi turn around faster than ever before to slap a hand over his mouth.
“Don’t make a sound.” Tsuyoshi muttered to him, capturing him back into his arms. “Unless you really don’t want to make it out of here…”
As the other man released his lips Koichi cocked his head to the side to glance up into Tsuyoshi’s eyes.
“Would you really hurt me?” he asked, looking as pitiful as possible and that took Tsuyoshi by surprise but not as much as when voices suddenly called after them, telling them to freeze right there. Over Tsuyoshi’s shoulder Koichi could see a pair of guards had found them. He had succeeded to stall Tsuyoshi from getting any further and the guards had finally caught up with them. Tsuyoshi spun around abruptly, probably about to point either of his weapons at the intruders.
Koichi knew he had to act immediately and so he did the first thing that came to his mind, pulling on his cuffed wrist with all his might until he lost balance and fell backwards to the ground, Tsuyoshi coming stumbling down on top of him.
The guards would get to his aid now. He would just have to last a few more seconds with Tsuyoshi and although his hands were shaking Koichi grabbed a tight hold on the prisoner on top of him, not about to allow the other boy have the chance to get up and escape with him again.
His heart beat fast inside his chest as he pressed the prisoner against his body and he was so sure this would be his last moment when help finally arrived.
It took four other guards attacking at the same time from different angles to capture Domoto Tsuyoshi.
After that little incident nobody in the whole joint took Domoto Tsuyoshi lightly again.
Koichi blamed himself for what had happened. If he hadn’t been so unsure and more experienced then maybe he wouldn’t have hesitated so much and then maybe things had never gotten so out of hands. It didn’t matter how much the other guards tried to tell him that Tsuyoshi was a troublesome one and none of them could’ve handled the situation any better, Koichi didn’t listen.
From that moment on Tsuyoshi became a fear Koichi felt he had to face and overcome. Little did he know that during all of those times he’d face his fear again and again, he would actually start to see how things truly were in the prison he guarded. Prisoners weren’t as safe as he had imagined. Stuff happened there that were downright illegal and his colleagues knew about, but never did anything about. There were plenty of new prisoners who were taken advantage of and everybody just turned their backs on it. To have committed a minor crime and been sent to prison and then taken advantage of…none of them deserved a fate like that.
Before he knew it, he had allied himself with the prisoner who ruled the place, though his biggest interest still lied in finding ways to get to know Tsuyoshi’s past that the prisoner in question for some reason held as a secret to him. To be able to overcome one’s fear, Koichi found one first has to know everything about it…
…
“Tsuyoshi could’ve made it out of here. He played around with Koichi-chan-senpai too much and that got him caught.” Jin said with a disapproving sigh.
“That’s just my theory on pretty boys. They will sweep you off your feet and only get you into trouble.” Koki commented. “I’ve seen it happen too many times in here. Guys lose their heads over them.”
“Yeah, but also they will make you want to get into trouble as long as you can just be around them…” Maru added.
“And not to mention how you will allow them to get away with so much that you normally would never let anyone get away with.” Ueda pointed out.
Jin suddenly felt looks upon him.
“What?” the leader groaned. “Whatever happened to your story, anyway?” Jin grunted, crossing his arms in front of his chest and Junno turned back to Kame, an amused smile covering his lips.
“Okay, so where was I?” the cheerfully smiling boy continued. “Tsuyoshi was captured and spent a few months in the special cells before he was moved to a normal cell like the ones we live in. Koichi insisted he could handle guarding also Tsuyoshi’s part of the prison even after what had happened and so he often got shifts there as well, since most of the guards were scared of Tsuyoshi more than the other prisoners…-”
“Save from Gackt.” Ueda pointed out.
“That’s right, but Gackt was captured after Tsuyoshi.” Junno added. “Of course Tsuyoshi knew about his upper hand situation, so he took full advantage of it…”
…
“I don’t recall you having a shift in this area today. In fact don’t you guard the other part of the prison?” Tsuyoshi said playfully as Koichi stopped outside his cell. The prisoner slowly rose from the bed he had been laying on, strolling closer until it was only the glass wall that separated them.
“You know when and where I have my shifts?” Koichi asked, baffled. How could Tsuyoshi possibly know? The prisoner was in that cell day and night. This part of the prison was under heavier surveillance and excluded from the rest of the prison.
“I know a lot more about you than that, like I knew it from you right away that you were a virgin.” Tsuyoshi’s comment took Koichi by total surprise and he could just stare at the prisoner. “I mean, from the way you reacted when I held you captive, the way your body betrayed you when I ran my hands over it…”
“What has that got to do with anything?” Koichi tried to say as nonchalantly as possible.
“You don’t have to be so defensive, it’s nothing to be ashamed of when you’re still so young-” Tsuyoshi murmured, placing his hands to rest on the glass. Koichi just returned the other boy’s look for a while.
“I know what you’re trying to do. I’m not afraid of you.” Koichi said, trying his best to sound convincing and hoped that he would also convince himself in the process.
“Really?” came the still not so convinced answer and Koichi forced himself to keep eye-contact.
“Yes.” Koichi answered stubbornly. “You’re just trying to scare me.”
Tsuyoshi suddenly slammed his hands against the glass so hard Koichi jumped backwards.
“Is it working?” Tsuyoshi’s playful tone came again.
“Tomorrow you’ll be transferred into a normal cell. I don’t know what you’ve done to end up in here and I don’t agree with that decision, but it was Johnny-san’s orders. He said that there will be another prisoner coming in after his trial tomorrow and they will give him your cell.”
“Ooh~ What did he do then?” Tsuyoshi teased.
“I…don’t know.” Koichi confessed. “None of the guards do, but they’re all afraid of him. They keep saying it’s rumoured that he is some sort of a vampire…”
“…Well, it will be wonderful to finally get this glass out of the way whenever you come to visit me then.” Tsuyoshi smirked, running a finger down the glass following the lines of Koichi’s body.
“If it was up to me you’d be staying in there until you’ve served your sentence.” Koichi said, turning around and trailing out of there as fast as he could.
…
“He’s been wanting to get into Koichi-chan-senpai’s pants ever since he laid his eyes upon him.” Koki commented.
“So true.” the rest off the gang laughed.
“So…how come Tsuyoshi-san hasn’t?” Kame asked.
“Hasn’t what? Gotten into Koichi-chan-senpai’s pants?” Koki asked and Kame nodded.
“That’s what I’d like to know…” Jin laughed.
“It’s not like he couldn’t.” Maru explained. “It’s just that he wants Koichi-chan-senpai to come to him.”
“Everybody around here knows that Koichi-chan-senpai is in love with Tsuyoshi. That was why bribing guards to ally themselves with us became so easy.” Jin said. “A guard in love with a prisoner… Koichi was a promising young guard in the beginning, honest and sincere, that is also why he hasn’t gone to Tsuyoshi’s cell yet for a little sleep-over.”
“Will Koichi ever give in to Tsuyoshi?” Kame asked.
“Sooner or later...” Jin said with a smile. “I bet we’ll get to see the day he does.”
“You’re on.” Maru said.
“I agree with Jin, you can only fight temptation for that long.” Ueda said.
“I say he won’t. Sleeping with a prisoner is against Koichi-chan-senpai’s principles, and Tsuyoshi is not just any prisoner. I am sure they will, but they’ve been on the hold for so many years already, I say we won’t get to see it.” Junno said.
“Nicely put, but I bet they will before we leave. Koichi is slipping. He has already broken the rules here in prison to get closer to Tsuyoshi, by any means. I mean, he allied himself with us; we will see the day he comes to work with a limp…or leaves work with a limp.” Koki said.
“This is getting exciting.” Junno smiled. “What about you, Kame-chan?”
Kame lifted his head to see the whole gang looking at him expectedly.
“Me? Um, I don’t know anything about them…What are we even betting with?” Kame then asked.
“Nothing in particular, really… but we might use this against the losers the next time it is someone’s turn to go and rob the grocery store.”
Kame looked nervously from one boy to another. “I-in that case I think I’ll agree with Ji- uh, Akanishi-san too. He seems to be really good at reading people…”
“Only those he is really interested in and studies day and night, otherwise he is hopeless…” Koki couldn’t help commenting and was slapped.
“Maybe you should re-think your bet, Kame-chan. Jin isn’t very good at those.” Maru said, a bit worried for Kame’s sake. “After all, it was his fault we ended up here.”
“Hey! Don’t blame it all on me! You made that bet with News too!” Jin defended himself.
“We knew it was either to go down with the captain or let you end up here all alone, so we chose to follow you. You don’t realize what wonderful friends you’ve got.” Koki shot back and Jin grimaced.
“Jin is weak for challenges and Yamapi knows it! We had to agree to his bet after you did!”
“Yeah, well, maybe he’ll think twice before daring us like that a second time. He isn’t overly fond of prison either…” Jin smirked.
“I guess not.” Koki snickered.
“No fancy products or fashion stores to rob.” Maru added.
“No clubbing and dancing.” Ueda said.
“No boyfriend.” Junno smiled.
“Yamapi…has a boyfriend?” Kame asked, before even knowing it himself. He was just so shocked to have heard that.
“Yes-” Junno started.
“He had-” Koki corrected.
“We don’t know any of that!” Ueda said.
“Does Jin know?” Maru asked.
“What does Jin know..?” Koki pointed out.
“Oi! I heard that!”
“Did I hear someone mention my name? Hey again, cutie Kame-chan~” Yamapi suddenly stuck his head in through the open cell door. Jin’s head snapped into the direction of the intruder. “Hey, Jin…oh and as always; thank you very much.”
“PI, GODDAMMIT GET OUT OF MY FREAKING WING!!” Jin roared, racing out of the cell in a speed that set a laughing Pi running for his life. They could hear Yamapi’s giggling echoing down the west corridor together with Jin’s bad language.
In the end it took four prisoners attacking at the same time from different angles to finally capture Akanishi Jin, pin him down and drag the cursing boy back to the west wing. Luckily TTUN had had training in this before so it all went quite smoothly…
