The American Idol Thing

May 21, 2009 17:06

I was listening to the Michelangelo Signorle show today, and of course I can't successfully post a link to his facebook page since it's Friends Only, but he made a comment about

Idol's results were revenge for the Miss California and Perez Hilton scandal

He then continued on to make more comments about how America voted for the safe, clean cut, moral majority kind of pick. And I do agree; Kris Allen is safe. He's likeable by grandmothers and five year olds. Don't get me wrong, I do think he is a good singer, but Adam is a GREAT singer.

I did want to see Adam win because we need more people to bring to light that being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender is not something to be judged on and used for discrimination purposes. I also wanted Adam to win because he's insanely talented and has a great stage presence. Before I'd known he was possibly a queen, he was my pick, and I really wanted to see a final 2 of Adam and Lil Rounds (until Lil started to suck, and then I was hoping for Alison and Adam).

The other issue, could be the glam rocker-ness that is Adam. While I find guys with makeup incredibly awesome, the general public might not think that it's appropriate. He has a voice you love or hate. For example, one of my coworkers liked him at the beginning of the season, but after the fourth or fifth week, she kept stating that he was screeching. And you know what? I can see where she was coming from with that. However, as you all know, I love rock, so Adam was definately more of my speed.

Did America get it wrong?

No, I don't think they did, considering there are still a lot of people that are uncomfortable with things that aren't "normal".

And Adam was not normal.

But the best part of Adam not winning Idol? He doesn't have to do that crappy song. :P
