McCain/Palin Rally

Oct 22, 2008 21:06

It was an experience.

voldiebeth and I (along with my family, but none of from the family were anywhere near each other because of the times we showed up) headed in to the stadium before my parents, and were shuffled over to the far side of the football field, where we had a pretty decent seat near the stage where the musicians would be playing.

And that turned in to us being shuffled over to being like four back from the stage where McCain and Palin would be talking from. That was awesome.

Local people talked, Gretchen Wilson and Lee Greenwood sang (wtf I thought he was dead) and then there was quite some lull time that should have probably been filled with dance team or cheerleaders or whatever other high school nonsense filler they could have pulled out of their asses.

Palin was a lot more charismatic in person. As in, the more I'm seeing of her, the more I'm liking her. I still don't think I'm the biggest fan of hers, nor do I agree with her policies about abortion and birth control, but I like her better than before. Also, Sarahcuda? Win.

I think I want to drop the Mew thing and take over Saracuda! (with exclaimation point and everything). Bitchin.

McCain was slightly creepy in person. He did a lot of really forced thumbs ups.

And there were less Obama picketers there than I expected. And really, Obama supporters, come up with a better insult than "go home to your rich daddy". The group I was walking to the car with just sort of laughed and said "Thank you! We Will!" I mean, come on. Far better insults than that are out there.

And as far as my political beliefs: Nothing I say will change anyone's opinion of voting. Nothing you say will change my opinion. I now have 3 things I dislike about Obama; national health care, Biden stating that the world leaders will test Obama because of his lack of experience (wtf why do we want MORE war? says the person who isn't opposed to war), and the whole "Share the wealth" idea that is eerily similar to the ideals of socialism. Not a fan of Socialism here. We should work for what we get. There will always be a priveledged upper class, and I'm ok I'm not there. If I wanted to be there (which I do, but I also am a realist and know I won't put forth the effort to get myself there) I would do what is necessary to get there. I would like to be higher middle class, so I'm going to college to earn a degree to get me to med school to earn a degree which will give me the opportunity to get a better job and therefore earn more money. If I chose to do nothing with my life, then I do deserve nothing.

But... political rant aside, it was a neat thing.
