I keep trying to write a post on the Shadowhunters fic I posted last November but it keeps being a long collection of random paragraphs rather than anything comprehensive. Admittedly, part of that is because it was a long damn winter and I'm just now starting to feel like I have a few spare brain circuits. On the bright side, I emerged from spring semester with A's in all my classes which I was very, very happy about. Right now I'm in the middle of a double-time physics class (12 weeks of material in 6 weeks), so I'm not a whole lot less busy. Just keeping up with Twitter is kind of challenging. Next I have double-time calculus 2 for the second half of the summer semester, but that's only 4 days a week rather than physics' 5 days and no lab. \o/ Yes, at this point, that does sound easier lol.
Anyway, I did have a badly needed week break between spring semester and summer sessions starting which I used to participate in
sid_guardian's
520 Guardian Exchange Fest. I've been kicking around fandom since I discovered it existed in the early 2000's, but this was the first fest I ever participated in myself. Wild, eh? I ended up with
jo_lasalle's name and wrote
Something Sacred We Found, a 6.7k, post-canon, Shen Wei/Zhao Yunlan hurt/comfort fic that's mostly comfort.
As much as I love these characters, after two fics I'm still frustrated with doing them justice. Mostly that's because there is just such good fic in this relatively small fandom that I feel like I'm punching above my weight class. On the bright side, that does mean there's a lot of good fic to read. Mostly I keep reminding myself that writing is a learning process and I took a 10+ year hiatus so it's not surprising I still feel rusty even with last year's Angelus ex Machina Shadowhunter series.
In other fannish news, the newest shiny is HIStory 3: Trapped. An utterly delightful Taiwanese drama that is a lot of lighthearted tropes, although we've hit the drama/angst section leading up to the end so the last couple of eps have been particularly weighty. I'm optimistic for a happy ending though (!!) and the characters are excellent. Just 4 more eps to be released out of 20, I think we're up to ep 14 with English subs, and I'm holding at ep 12 until I can watch the rest. I'm thoroughly spoiled, at least for what's been translated, because that's how I roll. :D
It is 3:48 PM on Monday, May 27, 2019. The sun is shining, it's 77°, and sunset isn't until nearly 10 PM. I have a couple of physics pre-labs I have to go do and tomorrow will start another sprint to a test on Friday, but right now the door's open, the pups are snoring, and things are pretty okay. ♥
