Summary: Jim escapes to Iowa to avoid the media frenzy following the Narada incident, but a late-night miscommunication results in Spock turning up on his front porch.
REC NOTES:
A very pleasing fic that wraps Kirk and Spock in a quiet bubble of time without completely isolating them. Jim's mom's house is rural and otherwise unoccupied but he has some hours at his old job to keep his hands busy and Bones to occasionally argue with via comm. Meanwhile, Spock, prodded out of the surety of his path by his alternate self, desperately needs time to recoup if the fact he actually appears on Jim's doorstep is any indication. It ends up being a great story about a tentative mutual respect turning out to be situation that's a lot different than either of them were expecting.
This was written for the Kirk Spock Big Bang in 2013 and if you're familiar with Cannedebonbon's work then you already know the art is gorgeous. Inspired by links include a podfic and two different translations.
P.S. The shorter sequel reads just as smooth but with more comedy and is an excellent dessert after the main course. :)
