Recs: TFTF, HP, H5O, IN, Merlin, Narnia, Sanctuary, SH, ST, SPN

Right, so I finished tagging in all the bits of fics I had marked to tag in gReader, and I cleaned up a bit over at Delicious in the stuff to rec, and ultimately discovered that I have 433 things marked to be recced. Fifty of them alone are vids! 96 of them are Star Trek (mostly STXI), but the rest are distributed between 73 different fandoms! Maybe I should start making some rec posts, eh? (31 down, 402 to go!)

Theoretically, you'll be seeing more of these, but if you're impatient or just looking for something to read, head on over to the aforementioned Delicious account. Everything is tagged (and therefore sortable) by tag, pairing, and rating, as well as what kind of fanwork it is (fic, vid, art, etc). The description usually includes a summary or excerpt, word count, and most have a review note already written. Warnings for the usual abuse of superlative language.

.: The Fast and the Furious :.

Caught | twilighthdfan [Brian/Dom, R, 1.256 words]
Prompt: In Fast and Furious when Braga asks Dom and Brian if they know each other, what if instead of saying 'He used to date my sister' Dom decided not to make Brian's undercover assignment easy for him and mess with his head a little by saying 'We used to date' instead.
Review Note: *snort* That would actually have been pretty awesome.

Born to Run |
frostfire [Brian/Dom, NC-17, 5.619 words]
Summary: Across the border into Mexico. Post-fourth movie.
Review Note: a;slkfkljshdhh

.: Harry Potter :.

Harry Potter and the Inconvenient Condition | Mirabella [Harry/Draco, R, 20.520 words]
Summary: Harry returns from vacation with an unfortunate case of vampirism and must learn to cope with blood, Malfoy, and recalcitrant secretaries. And if that doesn't tell you everything about the plot you need to know, you haven't read enough badfic.
Review Note: *laughs and laughs* But it's well written and funny bad fic, which makes all the difference!

All Roads (Eventually) Lead to Home | igrockspock [Gen, PG, 2.700 words]
Summary: After the end of the war, Hermione goes to find her parents. They aren't where she expected them to be.
Review Note: I'm spotty on this bit of canon, but I liked the fic and the idea that removing memories is fraught with trouble - particularly a lot of deep memories.

.: Hawaii Five-O :.
No spoilers to worry about, so far as I know!

Scenes from a Nuptials in Progress | templemarker [Steve/Danny, PG-13, 3.283 words]
Excerpt: "I fucking hate Costco," Danny ground out, turning back down to the pictures of the assholes they were trying to run down in defiance of box stores and all their ilk.

"I know you do," Steve said placatingly, "but we'll get a case of that beer you like, and maybe one of those cooked chickens, some macaroni, it'll be fine."

"Fine," Danny echoed, swiping at a picture to send it up to the television. Chin was standing next to it, a file in his hand, with an incredulous look on his face.

Review Note: Great banter and a nice cameo by Gov Jameson.

Trust People and they will be True to You | kristen999 [Steve/Danny, PG-13, 12.000 words]
Summary: Danny's brain catches up with current events, his face going white. “Oh my God. Look at you. With your Rambo paint and hardware from the latest issue of Guns and Ammo. You're in Super-Seal mode! Please, please don't tell me those clowns were right and that you're the strike-force?”
Review Note: Primarily Steve and Danny, but I still think of it as a nice team fic. Steve gets to be Super!SEAL but not infallible (and/or impermeable) and the rest of the team is capable of assisting in rescue efforts.

.: Inception :.

Full of Sound and Fury | Anon [Arthur/Eames, PG, 6.427 words]
Summary: Arthur is actually deaf, and in the midst of a job, his hearing implant gets wrecked. The fact that Arthur's deaf is news to Eames.
Author's Note: I'm a hearing person with no experience with deaf culture or issues. In this fic Arthur became deaf post-lingually and does not consider himself culturally Deaf.
Review Note: Only exists on the kinkmeme, but worth reading through the comment breaks! Ariadne puts in an appearance and the how of Arthur's deafness is an interesting twist. I'll admit that the fact it's "Monsanto's men" chasing them in the beginning makes me laugh. I'm pretty ignorant on the reality of being deaf myself, but it seems well handled and the fic is excellent.

What's a Little Contract Hit Between Friends? |
laceymcbain [Arthur/Eames, PG-13, 5.937 words]
Summary: “Darling, I know we've had our differences, but did you put out a contract on my life?” Arthur (accidentally) puts out a hit on Eames.
Review Note: Very nice! Poor Arthur is frantic.

Caught and Sang in Flight | suchdisguise [Arthur/Eames, PG, 3.018 words]
Summary: Arthur and Eames start a game where Arthur doesn't know the character Eames expects him to play and Eames doesn't know who sets the rules.
Review Note: I enjoy bamf!Arthur and Eames, so I loved this fic, which is all around a good bit of fun.

.: Merlin :.

The Great Winter | onelittlesleep [Arthur/Merlin, R, 9.138 words]
Summary: It's the Little Ice Age. OR. The Great Winter, when the Pendragon's are forced to bed down for a month under furs until the weather is warm again. Arthur's only seen the Great Winter in babyhood. Now, he must find a proper Royal Bedwarmer to share his Winter's rest with. It's a little plotty and a little silly, which is sort of my goto style in this fandom.
Review Note: Some really fascinating imagery at work that's stayed with me. There were a few small things that threw me out of the fic (how would Merlin know that silk wicks sweat away?), but overall a great read.

Courtship | Anon [Arthur/Merlin, PG, 2.785 words]
Summary: The next morning, Arthur finds a bouquet of flowers waiting for him with his breakfast. He knows they're from Merlin because every three seconds, they change colour. And every forty-five seconds, they sparkle.
Review Note: This is one of those 'have I seriously not recced it yet?' fics. It had me dying laughing and I'm grinning now just thinking about it!

.: Narnia :.

Went Forth Unconquered | gisho [Gen, PG, 3.576 words]
Summary: Susan Pevensie is, in no particular order, an orphan, an atheist, remarkably beautiful, firmly practical, and a Queen. Depending on how the accounting is done, she is either eighteen or forty-three years old. She is virtuous and kind. She is neither a virgin nor a fool.
Review Note: Susan, during the same time as The Last Battle. This Susan is unbowed and wonderful - I would be far happier to be in her shoes than in her siblings' at the same point in time.

Putting the Natives at Ease | burntcopper [Gen, PG, 2.314 words]
Summary: Everyone's children came back from the country changed. They were older, for a start. Some of them were wilder, some had no manners, some had been turned into country children with not a trace of London in them, complete with accent.
Review Note: Exceedingly interesting POVs on the changes in the Pevensie children.

.: Sanctuary :.

The Story Needed Mending |
mad_maudlin [Kate/Ashley, PG-13, 18.338 words]
Summary: Once upon a time there was a girl, and a ghost. Then it got complicated.
Review Note: Really spectacular fic and a fantastic fixit.

Fundamental Forces | skidmo_fic [Nikola/Henry, NC-17, 2.386 words]
Summary: The question of how this happened, how they got here, seems entirely too complex for Henry to answer at the moment.
Review Note: Henry's piercings + Tesla = *speechless*

.: Sherlock Holmes :.
All BBC 2010

Grey Eyed Lady | kikainausagi [Gen, PG, 900 words]
Summary: "Anthea" contemplating Sherlock, John, and Mycroft, in the context of Greek mythological tradition.
Review Note: For a prompt wherein "Anthea" is actually the Greek goddess Athena. I love the prompt and I love the way it's been filled here - beautiful writing with a dry humour.

Gone is My Past | cyerus [Holmes/Watson, PG-13, 7.932 words]
Summary: Filled for this prompt on the kinkmeme: John is an army bomb detection dog who has been turned into a human.
Review Note: I loved this! Such a fantastic twist on the usual transmogrification trope.

No Bed is Narrow | innie_darling [Holmes/Watson, R, 7.582 words]
Summary: "Winter's Delights" from Evander's point of view
Review Note: If you haven't read Winter's Delights by kate_lear, then you should do so immediately! Once you have, you'll understand why I squeaked with joy and immediately clicked when this one came around! This fic fleshes out Evander and bits of the Holmes family wonderfully, as well as adding interesting observations about John and Sherlock themselves.

In Vino Veritas | sadbhyl [Holmes/Watson, PG, 1.810 words]
Summary: Beer makes unexpected friendships.
Review Note: A series of pub nights that John has with various officers of the Met. Particularly interesting looks at Donovan and Anderson as well as an all around nice fic.

Family Affairs | s0mmerspr0ssen [Gen, PG, 27.451 words]
Summary: When John's family is involved in a car accident, only nine-year-old John survives with bad damage to his shoulder. With no relatives left to raise him, John ends up in a children's home and quickly loses any hope that he will ever be considered for adoption. That is, until the Holmes family announces their interest in adopting a brother for their brilliant but troublesome son Sherlock.
Review Note: Originally on the kinkmeme, this is a proper journal repost. It's wonderful, and sniffle inducing, and liable to leave you with a case of the warm and fuzzies. <3

.: Star Trek :.
All STXI AOS

With All My Crooked Heart | igrockspock [Gen, PG, 1.189 words]
Summary: Uhura makes Gaila take a really boring literature class, and then Gaila tells her about the secret language of the slaves.
Review Note: Orion world building!

While Ever to Her (The Apotheosis Remix) |
medie [Gen, PG-13, 931 words]
Summary: The gods of the Orions are not gods as the aliens understand them.
Review Note: More Orion world building! I love Gaila's fierceness in Medie's hands.

Kitty Kirk | lalazee [Kirk/Spock, NC-17, 1.880 words]
Summary: Kirk was turned into a cat, and now he’s been turned back. Mostly.
Review Note: I could see the crew adapting to this perfectly and those potential scenes are very, very funny in my head.

It's the Grammar of Skin (peel it back, let me in) |
ninhursag [Kirk/Spock/Uhura, NC-17, 15.998 words]
Summary: In the tense aftermath of the Narada, Spock and Uhura break things off. Kirk may possibly object to this a little (or a lot). Then there's the standard away mission of doom that changes everything.
Review Note: Such excellent characterizations; this is a fic I've read more than once and will surely do so again.

Still Life |
dogpoet [Kirk/Spock, R, 39.886 words]
Summary: Traumatized by his experience on Tarsus IV, Jim Kirk runs away to Vulcan to undergo Kolinahr.
Review Note: Jim thinks Vulcans are the perfect people to help him with his PTSD. *facepalm* It works out better than it should, though. ;p

Quiver | anodyna [Spock Prime/Gaila, PG-13, 771 words]
Summary: After the banquet, there's one more dish to be served.
Review Note: D'awww! It's so sweet! Two people I really want to have a happy ending.

Dexterity |
leupagus,
screamlet, &
waldorph [Sarek/Amanda, PG-13, 7.938 words]
Summary: Detailing one of Amanda Grayson's first diplomatic assignments, which happens to be on the USS Kelvin.
Review Note: Is that a dangerous triumvirate of fanfic authors, or what? So priceless! Amanda is young but fierce and you can *see* Jim in both George and Winona. Mostly Winona (poor, poor George). This is technically not George/Winona, but, well, we all know where it's going.

Artistry |
corpus_invictus [Kirk/Spock, NC-17, 2.783 words]
Prompt: "You know what would be really erotic for Vulcans? Henna hand art."
Review Note: Yes it is, actually. (Not that I'm Vulcan, or know any personally, but in terms of this fic, it definitely is.)

.: Supernatural :.

Time and a Place | janice_lester [Sam/Gabriel, PG-13, 2.000 words]
Summary: Gabriel courts Sam with gifts. Sam courts Gabriel by chasing him down with pointy sticks, just like old times.
Review Note: Very fun and Gabe's POV is excellent!

Poetic Justice | chibifrieza [Gen, PG, 8.790 words]
Summary: Anyway, I somehow found myself volunteering to write a fic in which Team Free Will is cursed to speak in a different poetic form/mode every day for a week. That was on Thursday. I finished this morning. It's in eighteen parts over there, but that's just ridiculous, plus I am stupidly proud of this (and have made tiny edits), so here you go.
Review Note: AHAHAHA! The poor boys! Very well done and includes explanations of what's what at the end. Brava!

Cash Out, Get the Hell Out of Town |
twentysomething [Sam/Gabriel, R, 5.600 words]
Summary: "He tries to asses the situation, but he is completely incapable of figuring out a situation where Gabriel should be wearing an Elvis suit on top of him and he feels like someone is trying to rape his skull, but- oh. There's a feather boa wrapped around his calf. Well, at least he's not entirely naked."
Review Note: Downright funny with just the right amount of schmoop (fairly minimal, which is what works for me in this case).
