These are fics that I'd
bookmarked for the reading queue (the "admin:Unread" tag), but have since read. As you wouldn't know unless you specifically went back and looked, here lies a weekly round-up of what I've cleared from my unread tag. :)
.: DCU :.
Origins by
_angelicorn_ [Kon/Tim, Clark/Lex, NC-17, 12.326 words] Horribly sappy with an excess of pronoun replacing descriptors and the scene in part 8 is all about things happening too fast (but I still loved it).
.: Merlin :.
Hit Them with a Shoe by
themegaloo [Arthur/Merlin, PG-13, 6.092 words] In which Merlin and his magic are of differing opinions on the level of servitude that Arthur should be shown. It's hilarious and wonderfully in character!
.: Star Trek :.
All STXI unless otherwise noted.
Postal Service by
soloproject (fic lj:
midnight_city) [Kirk/McCoy, R, 6.535 words] An AU that has Bones as a vet and Jim as his mailman with everyone else showing up in assorted roles. Definitely entertaining!
Reach by
anotherdance [Kirk/McCoy, PG-13, 4.489 words] Circus AU - an absorbing tale with an open but mostly satisfying ending.
The Shotgun Proposal by
abigail89 [Kirk/McCoy, PG-13, 3.189 words] A fluffy, feel good fic.
Angular Momentum by
lindmere [Kirk/McCoy, NC-17, 8.624 words] The Enterprise is orbiting an anomaly and time keeps re-setting without their knowledge. Amazing dialogue and wonderful characterizations.
Highway to the Danger Zone by
remorsful_rain [Kirk/McCoy, PG-13, ~16.900 words] For
reel_startrek "Top Gun". I was on the fence and this one was nearly deleted (it needs a firm beta rather desperately) but the Enterprise makes an interesting appearance and it seems like someone will inevitably be looking for this at some point.
Under an Atomic Sky by
anruiukimi [Gen, PG-13, 8.481 words] Kind of an X-Men crossover, just adding in the possibility of the X gene to the STXI universe. A good fic that's set up as a possible WiP, but with enough of an ending to be satisfying on its own. May possibly move a little quick, but I love the addition of Archer in a guest spot and I'm a sucker for Pike ending up as Jim's guardian in fics.
Land and Sea by
ennyousai_fic [Kirk/McCoy, R, 8.421 words] Gorgeous and well written! Set in small sea side village, McCoy is the son of a fisherman drowned at sea while Jim is... well, a merman. I really enjoyed it.
Balances by
kradie [Kirk/Spock, PG, 2.163 words] TOS Pre-"The Search for Spock" fic (and it is important to understand that reference to know what the devil is going on). Sad, but well done. Deals well with Bones knowing something's off but putting it down to over work and grief even as he tries to be Jim's shoulder to cry on at the same time.
.: Supernatural :.
Five Things Most Kids Do that Sam and Dean Never Did by
maychorian [Gen, PG, 1.880 words] John's POV. It's a little sad, ending as it does before the beginning, but good.
.: Things I Decided Not to Leave Bookmarked (and Why) :.
Morgana's Discovery by
et_cetera55 [Arthur/Merlin, NC-17, 1.464 words] Definitely a PWP and hardly terrible, but I had some issues with Morgana's physical perspective (or lack thereof) on the events as they transpired. Probably a minor quibble but a pet peeve for me in a fic such as this which is essentially centered on the concept.
