I'm baaaack!

We're back from the honeymoon. Coming back from a vacation always sucks, because you have to unpack, do laundry, figure out what to do with the four giant bins of wedding stuff in your living room... sigh.

So. Got married last Saturday. Stuff went wrong, of course, but overall it was good. I actually don't remember a lot of it, because I was so tired and brain-dead. I wish people had stayed longer, but I guess it makes sense that they didn't because so many people had a long drive to get back home.  I guess I also wish that more of the no shows had RSVPed so we knew for sure, and that the 15 or so people who didn't show up after RSVPing "yes" hadn't done so, since we wasted a lot of money on booze and food.

Anyway, I wanted to write about the rest of the week, since I do remember that :)
The honeymoon was great. Besides the celebration of being married, a vacation is always fun :)

The Chrysalis was AMAZING. I was kicking myself for not bringing my camera, and I did take a few pictures on my phone, but they came out really poor.  The bed was huge and incredibly comfortable. There was a fireplace, and a huge window with a view of the bay with a large bench seat in front of it. I LOVE window benches. The bathroom had a gigantic, two person tub, and sliding partitions on the wall so that you could open the bathroom to the rest of the room and look out the window while soaking in the bath. It was spectacular. And this was just the standard room! I highly recommend that everyone stay there at least once in their lives. I want to go back for every single anniversary! We also ordered the world's best room service from the restaurant downstairs for a late dinner. I loved that place. I could have stayed in that bed all day, but we actually left right after hitting the breakfast buffet because Dustin was antsy to get on the road.

Long Beach is REALLY far away (duh). Five hour drive. Not great. Good thing we left early. Our cabin was not nearly as luxurious as our wedding night hotel, but it was really cute. It was right next to the main beach access, and we would have had a beach view if the dunes weren't in the way.

The bathtub wasn't big enough for two people, but it did have jets! Technically you're not supposed to turn the jets on when you're using bubble bath, but I couldn't help myself.

That's about eight inches of solid foamy goodness that took FOREVER to wash out of there. The only thing I didn't like about the cabin was the teeny tiny shower.

Being there so early in the season was a mixed blessing. On one hand, several places (including the bumper boats) were closed, but all of the locals were really nice and friendly instead of overworked and harried. There was a store right across from our cabin called Scoopers that was half candy store and half mini mart we were quite fond of.

We went there a lot since the regular grocery store was a few miles down the road, and we mostly just walked everywhere. Scoopers is also a very awesome ice cream parlor.

Delicious.

Of course we went to the beach alot, but I don't have that many pictures of it. A long stretch of sand and a huge expanse of ocean don't make for the most interesting pictures. But here's a buoy and a seagull!

The weather was actually pretty nice most of the week.

Much to our surprise, teeny little Long Beach had a real movie theater, and on Monday we saw Star Trek! I was never a fan (I only saw a handful of episodes many years ago and didn't like it), but I really enjoyed the movie and am excited for the sequel.

On Tuesday, we drove up to Oysterville, which is the northern most community on the peninsula, and the former county seat. The whole (tiny) community is on the National Registry of Historic Places.

It's pretty desolate up there.

The church. They still hold vespers there in the summer, but it was empty when we went. Pretty, though. It had really cool wall paper. I love old wall paper. I'm weird like that.

One of the beautiful old houses.

In the yard of one of those beautiful old houses.

I fell in love with the town, and tried to convince Dustin we should move there some day. He would have none of it. There was also an old cemetery, but most of the pictures I took there were on my 35 mm camera with black and white film, which hasn't been developed yet. We also went to Leadbetter Point, but all we saw were mosquitos.

In rained all day Wednesday, but we still stuck with our plan and drove down to Seaside, Oregon. First we ate breakfast at the bed and breakfast I almost booked before I decided I preferred a cabin (for the privacy and kitchen). I kind of regret my decision, as the bed and breakfast was GORGEOUS. It's basically a Victorian mansion, with stained glass windows, thick carpeting, dark wood panelling, curvy staircases, the works. And of course I didn't have my camera. If I ever go back to Long Beach, which I probably won't, I'm staying there.

We didn't stay in Seaside too long, as the weather was a major deterrent, and basically all you can do down there is hang out on the beach and shop. One of the first things I saw was a sign that said "Old Thyme Photos," and I about peed my pants. My parents had one of those done ages ago (I think before I was born), and I've always wanted one. If I'd known we were going to do it I would have put makeup on and done something with my hair, but I was "beach natural" all week and didn't expect to find one of these places. I actually found two that day.

I think my dream is to own one of these photo shops. I wonder if Bellingham would support such an endeavor?

We also went to the Seaside Aquarium, which was small and depressing, but they had seals you could feed, which was HILARIOUS. They all had learned cute tricks to encourage the fish-throwing tourists, like slapping their bellies or the water, or barking, or looking at you over their shoulder with their big brown eyes. One of them actually splashed people really hard, which somehow worked to get him lots of fish even though the people were squealing in indignation. It was a lot of fun. Unfortunately I entrusted Dustin with the picture taking, and as a result, have no pictures of adorable seals. We can't all be good at everything. We also went into this amazing home decorating/knickknacks/candy shop that had incredibly beautiful, richly colored decadent things for the home. We splurged on a gorgeous lamp, and I also bought a few other beautiful things to set up a picturesque bedside table. Some day I will have a house full of beautiful things, but I'm starting with one small table.

Thursday was really low key. We wandered around town, and found the aforementioned closed bumper boats (bummer). I took some pictures with my other camera. We went down to Cape Disappointment State Park for awhile. The notable part of the day was dinner. We ate out A LOT on the trip, and the food was really hit or miss. On Thursday we went to this little restaurant called the Depot in Seaview that is actually an old train depot. It was my first time in a "fine dining" establishment where the portions are small but so delicious that you leave satisfied. It was a gastronomic wonder.

Unfortunately, our last night there, I slept really poorly. Then I got us lost on the way home, and Dustin got a speeding ticket. But it's good to be home, with a regular sized shower and the kitties. And tomorrow we get to spend our wedding present gift cards and money! Woohoo!
