Little Mermaid Survey

Aug 20, 2008 09:11

So, I haven't updated for a week, and what do I come back with? A Little Mermaid survey, of course! I swear, you find the most interesting things on LiveJournal.

Name: Erin (why is this needed?)

How old were you the first time you saw it? 3 years old.

How old are you now?: 20

Did you see it in the theaters? No, apparently I saw it on the TVs in Target.

Who was with you? My mom. We sat there and watched the movie from the “Les Poissons” scene and then watched the beginning of the movie when it started playing all over again. And while we were watching the movie, my dad went shopping.

How many times have you seen it?: I don’t know…pi.

Can you recite the whole thing by heart? YES!!

Who is your favorite character(s)?: Ariel and Eric and Sebastian.

Why?: When I was little, I loved Ariel because she could sing. Ha ha! But I also love her personality. I love Eric because he is one of the two or three Disney princes who actually has a personality. And he’s also such a nice guy. As for Sebastian, I love how grumpy he acts, when he’s really just a soft shell.

Has that always been your favorite or has it changed over many years?: It’s always been my favorite animated/Disney movie. I admit that when I hit Junior High and High School, I never liked to admit it because I thought that I was getting too old. But now that I’m in college, I don’t really care what anyone thinks, and have no shame in telling people that it’s still my favorite.

Do you own the movie, if so, in what formats?: I own the 2-disc Special Edition and I also have the VHS copy with the original cover art. I hardly ever play the tape though, because not only is it getting old, but I’m also paranoid about losing it ever since it got stuck in a neighbor’s VCR and remained there for at least five years.

Have you ever actually seen Mickey & Donald in the crowd?: I never noticed them until someone pointed it out a few years ago, but I know where they are. Goofy is also with them.

What's your favorite scene and why?: I have to put only one scene? Seriously? The one that pops into my head is where Ariel and Eric are in town dancing and riding in the carriage. That entire “town scene” is so beautiful, because you can see them get to know each other. When you see the two of them dancing, you can tell that they’re falling in love. Plus, the music is gorgeous.

Favorite Song?: Part of that World, and Poor Unfortunate Souls.

Favorite Lyric?: “I admit that in the past I’ve been a nasty. They weren’t kidding when they called me, well, a witch!”; “What would I give to live where you are? What would I pay to stay here beside you?”; “What’s a fire? And why does it…what’s the word? Burn.”

Favorite Line?: “Boy, what a soft shell I’m turning out to be.”; “I got it! It’s your hairdo, right? You’ve been using the dinglehopper, right? No? Well, let me see…new seashells?”

Have you ever dressed up as one of the characters for Halloween?: Surprisingly, no!

Does anyone else in your life share your passion or are you on your own?: My mom likes to watch it with me, and one of my guy friends actually likes it, too. But I’m the only one who’s head-over-heels in love with it.

Do/Did you have your own collectibles (snow globes etc.)?: I have an old Little Mermaid comforter, an Ariel nightlight that is probably long gone by now, an Ariel dirty clothes hamper (that goes with me to college), a few Little Mermaid snow globes, a Sebastian and Ariel sequin bag, and a couple of Ariel pins that I attached to the bag.

Have you completely driven your friends and family crazy over your obsession?: Not really. I hope.

What's your opinion on the priest and his...protrusion?: You know what? I would probably never have noticed if no one had said anything. But after seeing the…ahem…artwork on the original cover, the priest didn’t really surprise me.

Do you have the original VHS with the recalled case?: Yep. And nothing and no one will ever take it away from me. I consider that a collector’s item since it’s been recalled.

Tell us a fun fact about the film you think others may not know: Included with Sebastian and Flounder, Ariel had another companion, who was a dolphin. But he was cut and his personality made it into Ariel, making her more energetic and brave.

Tell us a personal fun fact about the film: I love watching the bubbles, which were drawn in China.

Do you plan on showing your kids this film, or if you have kids, have they seen it? I doubt I’ll ever have kids, but if I do, I’m definitely going to show this movie to them. It would be an act against God NOT to!

What are your thoughts on TLM II? I like it, but I don’t love it. I think I have this mental block which keeps me from liking it too much, because I don’t want it to take the place of the original.

Did you like Melody? I liked her hair. Ha ha! Honestly, for most of the movie I thought she was kind of bratty.

What are your thoughts about the third? It comes out the day before I leave for New York City! I’ll be at the store early so I can watch it, and then finish packing.

Did you watch the TV series much? Yes!! I think what I loved most about it was that Jodi Benson also did the voice of Ariel in the show. How many times does that happen?!
