A Moment of Silence ...because I am M.A.D.D
(this isn't one of those things that if you don't repost, I will remove you from my friends list...I just wanted to talk about this)
I am sure most, if not all, of you are aware of the organization called M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). While I am not an official member (yet), I support them nonetheless. Next month is a bitter sweet one for me....my youngest son turns 4, and it will be the 12th anniversary of my senior year high school prom (I went to a teen club with friends instead of the prom...cuz I am cool like that!). That particular night, we lost two classmates due to drunk drivers. You would have thought that would be my wake-up call. It wasn't. Shortly afterwards, during my Spring Break, I decided to get completely smashed and drive around with my best friend...an intoxicated *joy ride* in her car that almost ended up in our own deaths when I barely missed colliding head-on with a tree.
THAT in itself woke me up!
I ask of you....as a mother and as a woman who STILL mourns the death of two wonderful classmates (and as someone who almost ended their life by doing something so damn stupid)..... PLEASE DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE! EVER! Get a designated driver, or be a *hero* for a night and become the designated driver!
I am NOT saying don't ever drink (because Lord knows I like an alcoholic beverage once in a blue moon) ....just be responsible. Learn from my childhood stupidity ....don't be a statistic or make someone else one!
