Soooooooooooooooooo where IS Bin Laden?
Does anyone care?
Is it even related?
I severely doubt it by now.

Well he orchestrated it...

Right, and each time President Moron needs a boost or another excuse for something, another "tape" appears conveniently out of nowhere on that very day! And with *all* their power, resources and intelligence, they can't "find" some guy in a cave.
I'm sorry but I no longer believe the official version of what happened that day. And I don't support anything these people do in the aftermath. It's insane. You'd have to live on this end of things to see their brainwashing and daily propaganda sessions in full effect. And the sheep that follow. It's easy here as most people don't care about politics anyway and are rather... errr,
emotion-driven in these matters. Other countries still have real news as well. Not so here. Are you a Bush fan, or do you just believe whatever he says? ;P I've lived here for quite some time now and I've seen the effects of him and his club of freaks. It's all very sad, to say the least. It has also divided this country even more.

Perhaps one advantage of being where I am is that I can take a step back from it all, although even in the UK I did that to some extent. Also perhaps it's due to the Internet, but I've seen some of the most horrible fights and polarisation of groups over the topic of the war in Iraq and support for Pres. Bush. Whereas you only used to see the most vehement supporters of a political group flying into rages, now it seems that pretty much anyone will do this! On the Internet of course. So suffice to say I try and avoid discussing politics and Iraq on the Internet for the most part, primarily because there's very little sensible relaxed discussion ( ... )

btw the majority of politicians in the west are too "stupid" and their work is too transparent to be able to manipulate the country to any great degree. So I certainly don't think Osama Bin Laden's 9/11 attack was faked. Perhaps they could do more to find him, but my understanding is he's thought to be in a huge area in Pakistan which the Pakistani government won't let foreign troops into. Of course Bin Laden has pretty vast financial resources, and could be anywhere in the world at this point. It's like looking for a needle in the proverbial haystack. And even if Bin Laden were found I'm sure there'd be someone to take his place, so other methods of resolving this need to be pursued.

I agree with most of this but not all. Either way, I think everyone has their opinion on the matter and with those who tend to think things through, that opinion is bound to be multi-faceted, regardless of which "end" you're on. For instance, of course it's a good thing Saddam has been removed from power - but at what cost? And who actually still believes they went in for WMD and "spreading democracy"? I mean, hello? How naive can people be? The problem with the USA is that they've claimed good causes for military action and... let's call it self-enrichment for ages now, and in many locations across the globe. This isn't any news, it's a mix of cultural imperialism and the notion that the world must be "enlightened" to the American Way -- which is the only way, of course! "IF YOU'RE NOT WITH US, YOU'RE AGAINST US" was a nice display of that widespread notion ( ... )

Personally I think there was a desire on behalf of the US government to show force and overrule the UN (you often hear the US bemoaning the UN on news channels like CNN), so the intelligence they had on WMDs wasn't as carefully scrutinised as perhaps it could have been. Certainly the thought was Saddam had WMDs, as there were several press briefings showing what they found in the lead up to the invasion. I appreciate there are conspiracy theories that this evidence was fabricated, but if this were really the case it would have the power to bring the US government down, plus there would simply be too many people involved in the bringing to bear of the intelligence for a conspiracy of this nature to not be discovered ( ... )

What would you say are the worst & best things about Brazil as you see them? =)

I think it's a fascinating place but have never lived there. Did you move exclusively for your wife btw, or did you want to live in Brazil anyway? I was just thinking that would also be an interesting poll question for the expat community here on LJ but perhaps it has been asked before.

The curious thing is that sometimes the worst and best are flipsides of the same thing. For example some Brazilian people can be very open and laid back, but at the same time they don't really care very much about other people.

Some of the worst things here though are the poverty, MAJOR political corruption (at ALL levels), pollution, quality of public education, unemployment, low salaries, bureaucracy, violence, crime, and import taxes. The best things are probably the weather (at least for the top two thirds of the country), and the people... to some degree.

I moved exclusively to be with my wife (my girlfriend then of course). I don't remember seeing that on the expat community, it would definitely be an interesting poll!
