"Till Death do us part"

Sep 23, 2007 23:27

It seems absurd that people should marry at 18, 20, 25... even 28, looking at some people that age who basically act like kids. 30 perhaps, it seems about normal to me in today's Western societies {elsewhere it obviously is a different matter}. 32... and we're getting there, an age where I think people are finally old enough for this to work. Am I so far removed from mainstream reality that I just can't see it's in fact normal to marry before 25? I think I might be. BUT! 80 minus 20 is 60. Do people really expect to be with the same person for 60 years? Expect it to last, with no disruptions, no infidelity ever, until death do us part? It seems absurd. I used to not think that, used to feel it's possible. Something has changed, shifted in my perception. Maybe I have changed, or the world has. Maybe I'm not as loyal as I thought. Or maybe I'm just an adult now.
