{Okay, I don't want to think/write about work on this long holiday weekend so I shall get back to your comments next week. Thank you all for your input!)
Sooooooooooooo. It's Labor Day Weekend here and L.A. is sizzling hot, over 30C/90F. I went for a swim but the sun was beating down on pool and sunbed and it's just too hot. I could literally feel the sizzling effect on my skin. Not good. It makes you feel like a sausage on the barbie {did I hear a giggle?!} and lobster red is just so unattractive. Speaking of which, an old classmate's father just died of skin cancer and he wasn't even the "tanning" type or particularly fairskinned - sigh - the morale? Watch the sun, people, fair or not!
This morning I made a quick run to Trader Joe's. I wanted some good imported brie and that pizza dough they have that's
really good. I've tried so many and they were all horrible, this one's great - TJ's still has its appeal. So there shall be proper breakfasts and semi-homemade pizza at the Blue Palace this weekend, featuring tuna, garlic, red peppers, sweet Maui onions and my supaaaasecret homemade pizza sauce - wheeee. The cashier at TJ's was flirting with me as usual and talking about holiday weekends and storms and his med school woes and who knows what else as he stared me in the eyes as if to say "won't you take me home with you?". I stopped listening somewhere in the middle, contemplating why the attractive ones always come in 3's.
Earlier this morning, Dave had called to inquire if I'm married yet. Because he finally got a divorce. I had not spoken to him in maybe 6 months so this cracked me up. I never *did* think she was right for him - too wishywashy, uninvasive, uninteresting. He's still crazy as he ever was and I love it but he's so much like a brother to me that we would never, ever work romantically.
Mr Argentina will be over later for semi-traditional, slightly improvised Kaffee und Kuchen {the tasty and fabulous German tradition of coffee and cake in the late afternoon}. The "cake" will be both German and Japanese/Hawaiian from my favorite bakeries, the coffee will be Belgian {recipe can be found at
http://community.livejournal.com/ethnic_cuisines/profile - join!}, and I have some elephant ears from the regular American store too. I don't plan on keeping him here overnight tonight as I have to pick up Thorsten and Savannah from the airport in the early morning and I don't want him to hang around the place by himself - we're not at that stage yet. Tonight we'll probably spend some time at the beach for drinks and cool ocean breezes.
