Making Monday: Lavender Satchels

Aug 25, 2014 13:56

I finally had a  chance to get the lavender out of the liquor cabinet and  get to work putting it in satchels. As  everyone saw before it has been hanging to dry since July 8th.

So on Saturday I decided to finally take it down and get it ready to be bagged. I also grabbed the window lavender which had dried as well.  I started separating the buds from the stems.

Something  that was actually pretty easy now that it was dry. I pretty much just rubbed the branches together, and the dried flowers fell right off.  Sometime just sliding my fingers in the opposite direction of where it grew.  Then I just tossed aside the remains of the stems. Which also had dried nicely though I have no idea what I would do with them.

Once I had a bowl full of buds except for one bundle, I decided to keep, I just bagged the lavender in some organza satchels.  These were pretty small satchels at 3″x3″. I was able to get five mostly full baggies. And one bundle to hang in my bedroom, since it kept the great color.

After adding a purple ribbon I was ready to hang it up.

Things I gathered for the next lavender adventure:

  • The buds from the liquor armiore  were much darker which makes sense
  • They were also stronger smelling
  • I hadn’t cleaned the lavender before drying it, so the idea of using any of it to make something edible has been tabled  (my hands were covered in a light film of grime so no)
  • A small scoop would help with the bagging process
  • The scent of lavender will overpower the room for a couple hours
