Disclaimer: Don’t own even a little bit
Summary: He wasn’t sure how it was supposed to end, but not like this. All mistakes are mine.

Things weren’t supposed to end up this way, he wasn’t sure exactly how he thought it would end, but not like this.

Green eyes stared out blankly at the interior of the church, blood splattered hands hanging limply at his sides as his knees gave out from under him, Dean’s body sinking to the floor. Ruby’s knife, his knife, lay discarded beside him, crimson blood fresh from the kill sticking to the blade.

Sammy’s voice rang out behind him, something in the tone told him that his brother was happy, but he couldn’t hear the words, couldn’t tear his gaze from the scene before him. The scene that no doubt Sammy hadn’t seen yet.

Large feet padded swiftly up to him, a strong hand clasping on his shoulder as his brother’s familiar voice sounded beside him, the words still evaporating somewhere between his mouth and Dean’s ears. The voice stopped; cut off abruptly as Sam must have shifted his head to see what Dean had been staring at so intently, hadn’t been able to tear his gaze from.

Lucifer was splayed out on the hard stone floor of the church, throat ripped clean in two and leaking thick crimson blood, the carpet and ground below him stained the same colour. Eyes that had once twinkled obsidian in delight and madness, filled with power and knowledge so great that Dean had never for one moment believed that he would be able to defeat him, were wide and glassy, the pale blue eyes of the vessel staring back at him now.

That wasn’t what had kept Dean rooted to the spot, wasn’t what caused a pit to open in his stomach as a freezing numbness spread throughout his entire body, heart clenching so painfully in his chest.

Cas, spread on the altar for all to see, an example to be made of for daring to strike The Morningstar, for daring to defend and protect his charge, his human. Blood seeped from the hole in the angel’s neck, the image of wings burned into the wood and stone below, forever marking the earth, forever damning the once hallowed grounds.

It wasn’t supposed to end like this.

Partly influenced by funky mood of funk after watching a trailer for SGU(Stargate Universe) yesterday, old news probably but i'm always late on finding out things, and not being at all impessed by it. I can't for one moment see why they cancelled SGA for it. But! This is not the place for that rant.... *grumbles off into a corner*

Comments are love, and please point out any mistakes i've made.
